Jan E. Mayer, of Claypool, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, at the age of 70.
She came into this world alongside her twin brother, Jim, on March 31, 1954, in Warsaw, to Norma Butler and Frank Copeland. Jan grew up in Kosciusko County, where she was a 1972 graduate of Warsaw High School. She fell in love with a young man by the name of James “Jim” Gregory Mayer, her high school sweetheart and best prom date ever! Jan absolutely knew she was going to spend the rest of her life with her best friend. They were married on July 28, 1973, and never looked back. Jan and Jim would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary this year.
They were partners in everything they did on their journey together. Blessed with raising their son, who in turn blessed them with three grandchildren to love and spoil, she loved her family, which was her whole world. Jan always had enough love to share. She could always be found outside, enjoying the weather, especially a warm sunny day. Keeping busy making her yard look beautiful, landscaping and tending to her many flowers. She and her husband Jim lived for a few years in warm sunny Texas where together they owned and operated a Sonic. They also owned and operated Lake City Medical in Warsaw as well as E&M Meat Market in Warsaw. Most recently, she worked at Meijer in Warsaw where she was a familiar smiling face.
With her kind heart and sense of humor, she made a big impact on this world in her 70 years. She spent her time loving people in a great way. Forever remembered in the hearts of her family as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. A courageous, strong, beautiful soul is gone, she was dearly loved by her family and everyone who knew her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Jim Mayer, Claypool; son, Travis (Jennifer) Mayer, Roanoke; three grandchildren: Brayden, Jaciey and Bodie Mayer; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her twin brother, Jim (Teresa) Copeland, Waco, Texas; and her sister, Deloris Copeland, Bourbon. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Karen (Joe) McKibbin.
Jan’s life will be celebrated privately by her family, but please let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers as they navigate this heartache Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
