Friday’s annual Family Carnival at Central Park looked to be on par with attendance from previous years.
Warsaw Parks Superintendent Larry Plummer said the Family Carnival has been put on for several years.
It takes about two or three months of planning to get the carnival going and parks staff started setting up Thursday.
Money made from Friday’s event goes into the Parks and Recreation Department’s nonreverting fund so the carnival can be held next year.
The purpose for the carnival was to have a family event right before school starts so families can come out and enjoy the park, food and games and spend time together.
At the carnival, there were food vendors, games, hamster balls and raffles.
Last year’s carnival was cancelled due to heat.
When asked what it was like to have the carnival Friday after last year’s cancellation, Plummer said, “It’s wonderful. And we’ve got great temperatures. That brings people out. It’s an opportunity to come out and it’s just fun to see all the kids and families out enjoying the event.”
Plummer said turnout Friday compares to previous years.
The reactions Plummer saw Friday included excitement. People are happy to be out and doing things as a family.
“Just seeing the smile on a kid’s face is all we need to see,” he said.
