Project 2025

Editor, Times-Union:
Have you heard about Project 2025, the 900-page policy blueprint for a potential Trump administration? Project 2025 was authored by the Heritage Foundation with the input of dozens of former and likely wannabe again Trump administration aides. Are you aware of the potential changes that implementation of Project 2025 may have on your daily lives? Regardless of your political part affiliation or personal status in life, fundamental changes are in the offing should Trump and his endorsed state and local candidates triumph in November. Some will feel the effects more than others and for many, those effects will not be making us great again.
The follow is my take of what implementation of some Project 2025 objectives may mean:
If you are part of the working/middle class, you will be paying higher takes to pay for tax cuts for the ultra-rich.
The Department of Education will be eliminated and public schools will face funding cuts and possibly elimination of federal funding. Government approved “private” schools will prevail.
“Traditional” families will be promoted while single mothers will be shunned.
The U.S. Supreme Court and lower courts will be packed with right-wing conservative judges who will rule in favor of the edicts coming our of the Trump administration.
A complete ban on abortions without exception for rape, incest, health of the mother, etc. will become national law with the possibility of the prosecution of women and their health care providers.
African American and gender studies will be banned at all levels of education.
Capital punishment will be promoted and vigorously pursued.
Birthright citizenship will end.
Protections for the environment will be removed to benefit big business.
Portions of the Constitution will be suspended at the whim of the administration.
The powers of the president will be expanded and largely unfettered (reference the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity) with executive orders, policies and regulations carried out by a pre-vetted, hand-picked band of Trump loyalists.
The Department of Justice will become a blunt weapon of the administration as part of Trump’s retribution campaign.
These are only a few of the changes that the writers of Project 2025 promise. I encourage everyone to carefully consider what Project 2025 may hold in store for them and their fellow citizens should Trump and his loyalists succeed in November.
