Editor, Times-Union:
On June 11th, voters in North Dakota approved a referendum barring residents of North Dakota 80 or older from running of serving in Congress. Thereby creating a mandatory retirement age for the North Dakota congressional delegation. The text of that North Dakota amendment is listed below.
Congressional Age Limits (North Dakota)
Section 1 - Maximum age of 80 years. No person may be elected or appointed to serve a term, or a portion of a term, in the U.S. Senate or the U.S. House of Representatives if that person could attain 81 years of age by December 31st of the year immediately preceding the end of the term.
The above amendment should be adopted by each state in the Union in the meantime and eventually implemented as part of a constitutional amendment for all members of Congress, the Oval Office, and the Supreme Court. Such an amendment to the U.S. Constitution should also include the following.
Presidential Age Limits
22nd Amendment Modification - Presidential Term Limits
Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice and shall retire at the end of their current term upon reaching the age of 77 if in office.
U.S. Supreme Court Age Limits
Article II Modification - The judges, both of the supreme and inferior courts shall hold their offices during good behavior until the age of 81.
Voters of all strips whether Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, Federalist, America First or other should urge their representatives in the Indiana General Assembly to adopt Congressional age limits for their state and urge their representatives and senators in Congress to adopt all three nationwide as a part of a future constitutional amendment.
