The Warsaw Community Public Library Board of Trustees heard updates on upcoming events and current projects during a meeting Monday.
WCPL Director Heather Barron said library staff held their first planning meeting for the “Americans and the Holocaust” traveling exhibition, which will be at WCPL in the summer of 2026. The exhibit looks at the motives, pressures and fears that shaped Americans’ responses to Nazism, war and genocide in Europe during the 1930s and 1940s.
“It’s going to take a lot of work, depending how great we want to make this,” said Barron about the exhibit. “So the goal is make it as big as we can possibly make it for a one-time event like this.”
Barron also shared that she’s currently working on a white paper project with Kosciusko Leadership Academy cadets on promoting CARES resources in the Warsaw area.
The board also received a progress memo from MKM architecture + design. A final draft of a facility master plan for WCPL is still being worked on.
In other business, the board approved establishing Health Savings Accounts for full-time WCPL employees due to an increase in insurance deductibles. The policy allows for a maximum of $100 per month per employee.
The board also determined its slate of officers for 2025, with the slate to be officially voted on at the board’s January meeting. Chris Merrill, Cathi Zdenek and Ben Rice will continue serving in their current positions as president, secretary and treasurer, respectively. Board Member Tim Keyes was nominated for vice president.
WCPL’s board also:
• Approved a 10% salary increase for Barron.
• Approved April 24 as the board’s goals retreat date for 2025.
• Approved March 20 and Sept. 18 as staff development days for 2025.
The board’s next meeting is at 4 p.m. Jan. 13.
