Duane Earl Spangle
December 4, 2024 at 5:05 p.m.
Duane Earl Spangle, of Claypool, went home to be with the Lord and was surrounded by his loving family when he passed, on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw at the age of 87.
He was born on May 27, 1937, at home in Silver Lake. He was one of ten children born to Lena Pearl Gunter Spangle and Noble “Joe” Earl Spangle. Growing up in a large family he always had someone to hang out with and at times fight with, but always full of love. Duane graduated from Silver Lake High School, and he not only received his diploma but he also met his future wife.
On Nov. 16, 1956, Duane married the love of his life, Rebecca “Becky” Manns. Together they raised five wonderful children, shared the joy of becoming grandparents and great-grandparents multiple times! He loved his role being a Dad, but he especially loved being a grandfather and loved every single grandchild equally. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage before Becky passed away on March 12, 2020.
Duane lived the majority of his life and raised his family in the Silver Lake and Claypool communities. Duane was a hard-working man and spent his life serving many clients and friends over the years as an expert carpenter and masonry contractor through his family business he founded, Spangle and Sons Construction. He was a great bricklayer, with a keen eye for detail and ability to build structurally sound walls and structures that stand to this day. He was known for his hard work, honesty and strived to leave quality projects finished, leaving his fingerprints on many locations and buildings in Warsaw and surrounding areas. More than anything, he dearly loved the Lord and enjoyed serving and worshipping alongside his church family for many years at Gospel Hill Church in Silver Lake. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a friend to many. He would most want to be remembered for his faith in his Savior Jesus Christ.
He will be lovingly remembered by two daughters, Cheryl Gibson, Claypool; Dana Owens, Silver Lake; and two sons, Bruce Spangle, North Manchester; Brian (Tamie) Spangle, Leesburg. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; four brothers: Eldon (Arvada) Spangle, Claypool; Ralph (Diane) Spangle, Warsaw; Mike (Teresa) Spangle, Warsaw; Dwight Spangle, Warsaw; and three sisters: Shirley Hudson, Solsberry; Judy Weaver, Indianapolis; and Cathy Persinger, Chillicothe, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Russell and his wife Brenda Spangle; sons-in-law, Gale Owens and Larry Gibson; daughter-in-law, Lori Spangle; and two brothers, John and Larry Spangle.
Duane’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 at Gospel Hill Church, 303 S. Jefferson St., Silver Lake, and officiated by Pastor Bobby Board and assisted by Pastor Justin Harshman. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 3 to 6 p.m. He will be laid to rest at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
Memorial donations may be directed to Gospel Hill Church, 303 S. Jefferson St., Silver Lake, IN 46982; or to Stillwater Hospice, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46814.
