Virginia ‘Gini’ James

Virginia “Gini” James, 82, of Elkhart, formerly of Warsaw, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at her residence.
Gini was born on Jan. 2, 1941, in Alexander City, Ala., the daughter of the late Noah and Suevie Balintine Slaughter. She was united in marriage to Harold E. James on July 22, 1961, in Charlotte, Mich., who preceded her in death April 22, 2002.
Gini was a loving wife and enjoyed assisting her husband Harold with his Safe-Way Door business. She participated in ballet and was a ballet instructor. She had a great love of children, enjoyed gardening and her passion was in research of genealogy. Gini was a former member of the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, Warsaw Gardening Club and the Red Hat Society. She cherished her faith.
Gini is survived by her daughter, Julie (Mark) Bishopp, of Leesburg; grandchildren: Krystal Roberts, of Elkhart; Bobby and Kyle James, of Wabash; Collin and Carlye Bishopp, of Leesburg; great-grandchildren, Donovan Roberts, of Elkhart; and Trey Ponsler, of Leesburg. She is also survived by her brothers: Clarence Slaughter, of Saranac, Mich.; Jim “James” Slaughter, of Iron Rivier, Mich.; and Pat Slaughter, of Iron River, Mich.; sister, Ann Catchick, of Vero Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Harold, she was preceded in passing by a son, Bob James.
Funeral services in celebration of Gini’s life will begin at noon on Saturday, Sept. 30 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapels, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Chaplain Lois Tamayo officiating. Visitation is two hours prior to the service from 10 a.m. to noon in the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
The family kindly request the memorial donations to Animal Welfare League, 1048 S. 325 E., Pierceton, IN 46562.

Strong Second Half Puts South Side Over Tippy Valley
Unable to pick up a win in its season-opening game over Mishawaka a week ago, the Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team got back to work at Rita Price-Simpson Court on Tuesday night hosting Fort Wayne South Side. A game that was a grueling defensive battle for the first 16 minutes opened up into an offensive showcase in the second, with South Side earning a 64-55 victory on the road.
