WINONA LAKE - Grace College’s athletic department is saddened to announce the passing of Ivan Schuler this week.

Schuler was a pillar of the Lancers’ department for many years and was an inductee into the Lancer Hall of Fame.

Ivan and his wife Carol (who went to be with the Lord in 2016) came to Grace College from southern California in 1977.

Schuler served Grace’s athletic department in a variety of ways. He was Grace’s Director of Athletics from 1977-81. Additionally he served as the baseball coach, volleyball coach, golf coach and assistant men’s basketball coach. Overall, he coached for 14 seasons and was A.D. for four.

During his time at Grace, he initiated an athletic scholarship program for all sports and assisted with the development of the L-Club for athletic boosters.

In addition, he authored “Huddle Time,” a devotional for athletes and coaches, and taught classes in Grace’s P.E. major.

Ivan and Carol were inducted into the Lancer Hall of Fame in 2013 for their service to the athletic department. Ivan remarried to his wife Diana, who survives Ivan in the area.

“Ivan Schuler had an incredible impact on Grace College and the athletic department during his time as a coach and athletic director. We pray the Lord will be near his wife Diana, his kids and his grandchildren in the days ahead,” said Grace Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. “We are thankful for Ivan’s Christ-centered leadership that has been central to Grace’s athletic culture for many years. Ivan’s legacy will live on at Grace, and we praise God for the countless lives that he impacted through his ministry at Grace.”
