Local High School Sports Recaps For 5/21

Baseball

Lake Central at Warsaw


Warsaw was unable to pick up a win in its final home game of the season Saturday morning, falling 13-3 to Lake Central in five innings. The Tigers finish the regular season with a 15-12-1 record.

Josh Shapiro and Austin Polk both drove in a run for the Tigers, who totaled two hits as a team, but drew seven walks, including two by Jette Woodward. Josh Reihl and Kyle Showley each scored a run.

Warsaw begins sectional play Thursday evening against host school Northridge.

Wawasee at Lakeland

Wawasee wrapped up its regular season with a 5-3 win over Lakeland Saturday morning. The Warriors head into sectionals with a record of 5-19.

Wawasee will take on East Noble Wednesday night to begin sectional play at NorthWood High School.

Central Noble at Manchester

Manchester split its doubleheader against Central Noble Saturday morning, winning the first game 10-9 in eight innings before falling 7-0 in game two. The Squires are now 11-14 this season.

Reiss Gaerte went 2-4 in the first game with four runs driven in. Ethan Hendrix had a 3-4 day and scored three times. Garrett Sites went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Manchester wraps up its regular season on the road Tuesday evening against Fort Wayne Wayne.

Whitko at Prairie Heights

Whitko picked up its second win in a row Saturday morning, defeating Prairie Heights 9-5 on the road. The Wildcats are now 17-6 this season.

It was a 4-RBI day for Riley Harman, who went 2-4 with a run scored as well. Logan Hoffman went 2-4 with three runs scored. Cody Atkins struck out four in 4.2 innings, giving up no earned runs and six hits.

Whitko wraps up its regular season Monday at home against Fort Wayne Northside.

Argos at Triton

Triton looked dominant in its win over Argos Saturday morning, securing a 16-0 victory in five innings at home. The Trojans are now 10-15 this season, having won two in a row.

The Trojans will wrap up the regular season Tuesday evening on the road against Northfield.

Golf

Warsaw/Wawasee at NLC Golf Championships


Warsaw took second place in the Northern Lakes Conference golf championships Saturday morning with a score of 315, just four strokes behind conference champion Northridge. Wawasee finished in fourth place with a team score of 339.

The Tigers’ Aidan Bowell and Austin Craig each earned top five finishes by shooting a 74 and 78. Both were selected to the all-conference team. Warsaw’s Breckin Christner and Wawasee’s Vaughn Dyson also were selected to the all-NLC team. Myles Everingham led the Warriors with an 83 on the day and was selected as a conference honorable mention.

Warsaw and Wawasee will both compete at the Bob Turner Classic Monday at Tippecanoe Golf Course.

Tennis

Manchester at Peru


A phenomenal season for the Manchester tennis team was ended by Peru Friday night in the sectional championship. Peru won the match 3-2 to end the Lady Squires season with a 16-2 record.

The undefeated No. 1 doubles team of Carleigh Blevins and Delani Henderson won their match by forfeit and will advance to the state doubles tournament individually. No. 2 doubles pairing Addison Brubaker and Hailey Krom also won their match 6-1, 6-1. No. 2 singles player Myla Crozier battled hard in her match, but ultimately came up just short in a 6-7 (5-7), 2-6 loss.

Blevins and Henderson will most likely compete at the Culver Academies regional this week, which begins Tuesday.
