PLYMOUTH – Four area schools competed in the IHSAA Boys’ track and field sectional meet on the oval at the Plymouth Rock Pile Thursday night.

The Manchester Squires turned in the strongest team performance with 111 team points, second only to Culver Academies (155). Triton finished fourth (66.5), Tippecanoe valley finished sixth (52 points), and Whitko ended the evening with 12 team points.

The most interesting performance of the meet was the Times-Union area teams’ sweep of the top three qualifying positions (Manchester, Triton, and Valley, respectively) in the 400-meter relay.

Manchester captured one of its three first place finishes in 44.44 seconds with the team of Trevor Heath, Memphis Wood, Thomas Rodriguez, and Tyler McClain, followed by Triton’s foursome of Cole Irvine, Vinny Prater, Cameron Callahan, and Javan May (44.89 sec.), and Valley’s team of Grady Moriarty, Wade Jones, Cody Black, and Nathan Parker (45.22 sec.).

Jones, who took one of three area individual firsts in the 200-meter dash (22.94 sec.), and a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.49 sec.) will compete in three races altogether in the regional meet hosted by Warsaw Thursday, May 25.

The Manchester Squires’ distance tandem of Kyler Dale (10:17.44), and Raven King (10:27.60) turned in a 1-2 finish in the 3200-meter run. Squire teammate Kolby Haeker cleared 6’5” in the high jump for Manchester’s other first-place finish.

Additional area second-place performances included Carson Heath (Manchester, 110m hurdles, 16.09 sec.), Jordan Ayres (Manchester, discus, 125-00), the Squires’ 1,600-realy squad of Carson Heath, McClain, Wood, and Liam York (3:36.44), Eric Burke (Tippecanoe Valley, high jump, 6’0”), and Dalton Alber (Valley, shot put, 44-10).

Third place finishes not already mentioned included Nathan Parker (Valley, 400m dash, 53.25), Manchester’s King (1,600m run, 4:39.92), the Squires’ 3,200-meter relay foursome of Dale, King, York, and Clark Showalter (8:45.32), Callahan (Triton, long jump, 19-05.5), and Whitko’s Trey Herrera (discus, 119-10).
