Local High School Sports Recaps For 5/10

Baseball

Maconaquah at Tippecanoe Valley


Tippecanoe Valley earned a dramatic win over Maconaquah Tuesday evening, winning 5-4 at home. The Vikings are now 7-7 this season, 4-2 in the Three Rivers Conference.

Issiac Ramsey was the hero for Valley, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a wild pitch to walk it off. Cameron Manuel went 1-3, driving in a run and scoring one as well. Evan Myers gave up one earned run in six innings on the mound, striking out seven.

Valley will compete at the Culver Academies Tournament Saturday morning.

Concord at Wawasee

Wawasee was on the wrong end of a lopsided affair Tuesday evening, falling 11-1 to Concord at home. The Warriors are now 2-15 this spring, 1-9 in the Northern Lakes Conference.

Wawasee will look to get back in the win column and snap its six-game skid Friday night at home against Plymouth.

Southwood at Whitko

Whitko continued its impressive season with a 5-4 win over Southwood Tuesday evening. The Wildcats are now 14-3 this season, 5-1 in the Three Rivers Conference.

Easton Grable went 2-3 with three runs scored and one driven in for Whitko. Brent Bowers had two RBIs. Riley Harman was masterful on the mound, striking out 12 in seven innings while allowing just one earned run.

The Wildcats are back in action Friday night when the team faces off with Columbia City at home.

Triton at Culver Community

Triton picked up a dramatic win against Culver Community Tuesday evening, winning 5-3 on the road in eleven innings. The Trojans are now 7-12 this season, 4-6 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.

It was a nice day at the plate for Isaiah Vaca, who went 3-3 with an RBI. Alex Brown also had three hits on the day, going 3-5. Zac Greer pitched the first nine innings for Triton, striking out eleven and giving up just one earned run on six hits.

The Trojans return home Thursday for another conference game with LaVille.

Softball

Mishawaka at Wawasee


Wawasee suffered a loss to conference-leading Mishawaka Tuesday evening, falling 13-4 at home. The Warriors are now 11-9 this season, 4-6 in the Northern Lakes Conference.

Jaclynn Worrell continued her strong play with a 2-4 day at the plate, tallying a home run, two runs driven in and two scored. Iliana Burelison had a double and a run scored. Haylee Allen struck out five in four innings.

The Warriors will look to snap a three-game skid Friday afternoon at Plymouth.

Homestead at Manchester

Manchester dropped its third game in a row Tuesday evening, falling 11-0 to Homestead in five innings at home. The Lady Squires are now 4-16 this season.

Samantha Shock, Molly Schannep and Izzy Renz each had a hit for Manchester. The team plays its next game Saturday at Warsaw’s Lady Tiger Tournament.

North Judson at Triton

Triton was unable to make it two wins in a row Tuesday night, falling 6-0 to North Judson at home. The Lady Trojans are now 2-16 this season, 2-3 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.

Triton will look to get back into the win column Thursday at Caston.

Tennis

Southwood at Manchester


Manchester picked up yet another win on Senior Night Tuesday evening, defeating Southwood 5-0. The Lady Squires are now 13-1 this season, the team’s best start to a season in school history, 7-0 in the Three Rivers Conference.

Four of the five matches won by the Squires were won without dropping a game. Sarah Kerlin, Myla Crozier, Bethany Penrod and the doubles pairing of Delani Henderson and Carleigh Blevins each won 6-0, 6-0.

Manchester ended its regular season Wednesday night against defending conference champion Peru. Details to come in tomorrow’s paper.

Rochester at Tippecanoe Valley

Tippecanoe Valley earned a victory over rival Rochester Tuesday night, winning 4-1 at home. The Lady Vikings are now 7-6 this spring.

Karegan Callahan dominated her No. 1 singles match, winning 6-3, 6-0. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Lily Ault and Ella Sandbakken won in straight sets as well, picking up a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

The Lady Vikings are back in action Thursday at Southwood.

Track and Field

Southern Wells at Whitko


Whitko hosted Southern Wells for a Senior Night track meet Tuesday evening, with the girls taking first and the boys taking second.

On the girls side, Gwen Howard took first in the shot put, discus and the 400 meter. Emerson Harper won the long jump, 100 and 200 meter dashes. Nadia Rhoades took first in the 800 and 1600 meter races.

For the boys, John Morgan, Trey Herrera, Trevor Freel and Grady Branning each placed for the Wildcats.
