WINONA LAKE - For the first time in the 47 year history of the program, Grace’s women’s basketball team has earned a bid to the NAIA National Championships.

The historic moment occurred on Thursday night as the Lady Lancers watched the official unveiling of the tournament field from the friendly confines of the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.

Through joyous celebration amongst those in attendance Grace was revealed as the No. 12 seed in the Rio Grande Bracket.

“So excited for our program,” said Grace head coach Dan Davis. This is something that anyone who has ever played or coached here can celebrate. I want to thank our former president Bill Katip for his role in hiring me, as well as our athletic director Chad Brisoce and president Drew Flamm for their continued support.  To all the players that have played for me over the past five years know that the culture you helped build has made this possible, and all the current players who made it happen.”

The Lady Lancers earned the at-large bid after the most successful season in program history. Grace achieved 21 wins during the 2022-23 season and finished in third place in the Crossroads League.

Awaiting Grace in the opening round will be the University of Pikeville. The Bears earned a bid after completing the season with a 21-8 record out of the Mid-South conference

The first round game will tip-off at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to face the winner of fourth seeded Rio Grande and 13th seeded Siena Heights. The overall winner of the Rio Grande bracket will advance with 15 other bracket winners to the final site, which will be held in Sioux City.

“I want us to be able to soak in and enjoy this moment and can’t wait to hit the floor for the first time ever.”

WINONA LAKE - Grace’s men’s basketball team was rewarded for its sensational season with a No. 1 seed in the 2023 NAIA National Championships.

The Lancers (28-3) will square off with No. 16 Columbia International on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the NAIA First Round, which will be held at Grace’s Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.

The winner will play in the second round on Wednesday (6 p.m.) against either No. 8 Olivet Nazarene or No. 9 Madonna; that game will also be held in Winona Lake.

Grace was selected as a host site for the NAIA First and Second Rounds (presented by Ballogy), meaning Grace will host three games next week, beginning on Tuesday.
