By Donna Morris-
It is one of the two existing businesses from 50 years ago. It is now being ran by the fourth generation.
Marge Warren became a Claypool citizen in 1950. She and her late husband, Bob, raised four children in Claypool. She tutored many grade school children for a number of years at the elementary school.
After raising her family, Marge worked at the Kosciusko County Assessor’s Office for 20 years.
If you ever wanted a laugh, just talk to Marge, she always had a good story.
Janet Warren moved to Claypool at the age of 8 and has lived on Section Street for 83 years.
She and her late husband, Layne, raised their three children in Claypool.
Janet was a soda jerk at the age of 14 at the Claypool drugstore. She opened her first bank account at People’s Bank of Claypool.
Janet worked at the United States Post Office in Claypool and retired after 25 years.
Janet has always been an integral part of her church in Claypool. She works at the food pantry. She’s worked with the Red Cross and went on multiple Lions eye mission trips to foreign countries.
She is known as the noodle lady. She takes goodies to sick neighbors, new neighbors, etc. on her buggy.
Marge and Janet have always had a passion for Claypool. They both worked diligently on the committee for the 1973 Claypool Centennial. They started the Claypool Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, perhaps because they were known to catch a few fields on fire on multiple occasions.
They were both members of the Happy Homemakers Club for a number of years. They started the first kindergarten class in Claypool where the full Gospel Tabernacle Church is today on Main Street.
They organized the first town cleanup. Janet is still cleaning up.
Marge and Janet orchestrated the first veterinarian clinic with the help of Dr. Richard Sasso in Marge‘s garage.
There are many stories behind each of these items. Ask for details sometime.
Marge and Janet both still reside in Claypool, as they put it, at the ripe old age of 91 and 92.
Claypool has been blessed by these two ladies for many years by their love of this village.
