Warsaw, Tippy Valley Capture Conference Titles On Busy Saturday

Warsaw at Concord
It was a history-making night for Lady Tiger Basketball Saturday night.
Warsaw outscored Concord 37-0 in the first quarter on their way to a 71-16 rout that clinched the 2023 Northern Lakes Conference title for the Lady Tigers.
It’s Warsaw’s 18th conference championship and 13thunbeaten conference season in school history. It’s the first back-to-back titles for the team since the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
The Lady Tigers led 54-0 before Concord made a free throw with 1:45 in the second quarter to break the ice. The score at halftime was 58-3.
The 37 first quarter points is a school record for any quarter, besting the previous record, 36 points in the fourth quarter against Huntington North in 2010, by one point. The scoreless defensive first quarter was the third time the team had done that this season and 20thall-time.
Four Lady Tigers scored in double figures, led by Brooke Zartman with 20 points. Joslyn Bricker added 17, Ava Egolf scored 12 and Alexis Neely rounded it out with 10.
Warsaw (16-5) will finish its regular season with a home game Tuesday against Elkhart and a road trip to Huntington North Thursday.
Tippecanoe Valley at Southwood
Tippecanoe Valley also finished its Saturday night by cutting down nets. The Lady Vikings defeated Southwood 55-42 to clinch the outright Three Rivers Conference championship for the second straight season. Tippy Valley is now 17-3 and 8-0 in the conference with just one game left to play, two games ahead of North Miami.
Senior Kaydence Mellott continued a white-hot scoring stretch with 27 points to lead all scorers. Kelsey Cox added 13 points while Lily Ault contributed eight. Tippecanoe Valley travels to Syracuse Tuesday evening for a meeting with Wawasee.
Wawasee at Plymouth
Wawasee picked up an important win Saturday evening, their third in a row. The Warriors defeated Plymouth 38-28 to improve to 11-10 as well as 5-2 in the Northern Lakes Conference. Wawasee finishes conference play in third place, the first top three finish for the team since the 2008-09 season.
Kaydence Shepherd paced her team with 12 points. Not far behind was Lucy Wilkinson with nine points. The Warriors host Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday in what is their final regular season game of the season.
Rochester at Manchester
A slow start was too much to overcome for Manchester against Rochester Saturday night, as the Lady Squires fell 45-25 to the Zebras. Manchester is now 6-14, 2-7 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Molly Schannep led the team in scoring with nine points, followed by Gracie Lauer with seven. The team’s leading scorer Brookelynn Buzzard finished with just five points but made one three-pointer to give her 58 on the season. Buzzard now owns the record for most made threes in a season in school history, beating out Kennedy Fierstos’ previous record of 57 in the 2017-18 season.
Manchester plays its final home game of the season Tuesday against Bluffton.
Whitko at Northfield
Whitko picked up its first Three Rivers Conference win of the year Saturday night, defeating Northfield 63-56 on the road. The Lady ‘Cats are now 8-11 this winter, 1-7 in the TRC.
Whitko trailed by two points heading into the fourth quarter before a big final eight minutes led the team to victory. The Lady ‘Cats head to Winona Lake Tuesday night for a game against Lakeland Christian.
Boys Basketball
Warsaw at Valparaiso
Warsaw shot a blistering 71% from the field in a 61-58 victory over Valparaiso Saturday night, the team’s third win in a row. The Tigers are now 9-6 this winter.
Playing his second game in as many nights with an injured right shoulder, Jaxson Gould increased his legend with 24 points on 8-11 shooting, including 4-6 from the three-point line. Fellow senior Drew Heckaman also had a great night, finishing his evening with 15 points.
The Tigers go back to work with a Northern Lakes Conference game Friday night against NorthWood at the Tiger Den. Warsaw sits one game behind the Panthers for first place in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Manchester at Adams Central
Manchester picked up a rare loss Saturday, having the team’s five-game win streak snapped by Adams Central in a 65-59 loss on the road. The Squires are now 12-3 this season.
Ethan Hendrix led the team in scoring with 19 points, followed by Gavin Betten and Gavin Martin with eleven each. Manchester picked up a win a day prior, defeating Rochester 71-49 on Friday night to remain perfect (4-0) in the Three Rivers Conference. Betten scored 31 points and grabbed eleven rebounds in the win.
The Squires travel to Akron Friday night for a huge conference showdown against third place Tippecanoe Valley.
Triton vs. John Glenn
Triton’s run in the TCU Bi-County Tournament came to an end Friday night in a 56-22 loss to John Glenn at LaVille High School. The Trojans are now 7-5 this season.
Cole Shively had eleven points to lead Triton, which plays its next game Tuesday at Elkhart Christian.
