Brenda was born on Jan. 10, 1958, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Kyle and Anna Marie Hackworth Prater. She was a 1976 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School. She was married to Dan Smith and he preceded her in 2007. Brenda had been an apartment manager and prepared taxes. She enjoyed selling Avon products and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Christina and husband Patrick O’Day, of Nappanee; son, Bryon and wife Stephanie Jones, of Nappanee; mother, Anna Marie Prater, of Warsaw; grandchildren: Dylan, Megan, Seth, Paige, Sadie, Hudson and Saylor; a great-grandchild, Decklyn; siblings: Linda and husband Ricky Miller, of Lafayette; Glenda and husband James Wann, of Evansville; Chester and wife Terri Prater, of Bluffton; Jeffery Prater, of Rochester; and Norman and wife Kathy Prater, of Akron.
Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Kyle; and husband, Dan.
The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan.13 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Terry Bradford officiating. The interment will take place in the Akron Cemetery, Akron. Visitation hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
