NORTH MANCHESTER - At Wednesday night's meeting, the North Manchester Town Council voted to purchase and train an additional K-9 officer for the police department.
Since Strider's passing this summer, the North Manchester Police Department only has one K-9, Sarge, who is a bite and scent dog, and the police department would like to add another. The council approved purchasing and training a second, scent-only dog not to exceed $8,000.
The council also approved a design contract with Apex Engineering for upcoming Community Crossings grant projects and a street light conversion contract with Duke Energy. The street lights will be converted to LED bulbs, saving the town approximately $600 per month.
Ahead of the regular meeting, there was a public hearing for additional appropriations, end-of-year expenses not previously included in the budget. There were no public comments.
Cynthia Johnson, of the Learn More Center, presented on programs, students and staffing challenges, and requested $15,000 for the Center.
There was a town docket of $969,108.28 and a utilities docket of $227,430.67.
The council will next meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 3.
