WINONA LAKE - Grace College’s athletic department is pleased to announce a groundbreaking for its new baseball facility.

Grace will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the newly named Tom Roy - UPI Park this week on Thursday at 4:45 p.m.

The ceremony, which is open to the public, will be held at Grace’s baseball field. All Grace baseball alumni are also encouraged to attend the historic occasion.

Grace’s current facility will undergo a major facelift during the summer, including a new backstop, netting system and team dugouts as well as laying the groundwork for future phases of the facility.

The stadium will be named after Tom Roy, a former head coach for the Lancers and founder of Unlimited Potential, Inc. UPI is an international, 42-year-old organization that ministers to professional baseball players.

Roy has been discipling baseball players on and off the field for several decades, and the new stadium will help honor that legacy.

“We are thrilled to have the chance to enhance our athletic department with this baseball stadium. Tom has an incredible legacy of ministry, and we are excited to continue that legacy for future generations of Lancers,” said Grace Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. “This stadium will enhance the student-athlete experience and also give our team a great platform to share their faith.”

The baseball project has multiple phases. To see the proposed renderings and help Grace reach all of its fundraising goals, visit the official giving site at www.gclancers.com/baseballproject.

Thursday’s groundbreaking ceremony will also be streamed live at www.gclancers.com/live for those unable to attend in person.

Grace Hosts Sportsmanship Summit

WINONA LAKE - Grace College and Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe welcomed over 100 student-athletes from area high schools for a Sportsmanship Summit.

The Northeast Corner Conference held the summit on Monday at Grace's Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.

Several student-athletes from each NECC school attended the conference, which was designed to educate student-athletes about sportsmanship and character training in athletics.

"We are pleased to be a part of building character at the high school level through the Sportsmanship Summit," Briscoe said. "We hope it served as a great opportunity to educate and reinforce character education and to help promote the importance of sportsmanship for each student-athlete."

Students spent the day together working in groups to discuss and challenge one another in sportsmanship and character-building opportunities in the athletic realm. The students participated in a number of team-oriented activities to build camaraderie among the schools in the conference.

The Sportsmanship Summit featured sessions from Roger Grossman, Briscoe as well as IHSAA Assistant Commissioners Robert Faulkens and Brian Lewis. Student-athletes also took turns sitting on a panel and answered questions in a peer-to-peer teaching environment.
