Tippecanoe Valley Bests Glenn In Sectional Thriller

It was obvious from the beginning of the match that three sets were not going to decide the winner. From the opening points, the two teams went back and forth trading points. The first separation would come when Glenn scored five straight points to jump out to the first big lead of the match at 9-5. It wouldn’t last long though, as the Lady Vikings would come back to tie the game at eleven all.
The game would see five more ties in the next ten points. The two sides would alternate points until Tippy Valley took its first lead since 3-2 at 20-19. The two teams would share another tie at 23 after a timeout. The Lady Vikings would finish their rally off a few possessions later to take game one 26-24.
Tippecanoe Valley began the second set the same as the first, taking a 3-1 lead after a nice kill by Sidney Nelson. The set would change momentum frequently once again. As soon as one team looked to go on a run, a serve into the net or an illegal touch would reset everything.
After the Falcons were able to extend their lead to three at 13-10, Valley would rally to tie the game. The Lady Vikings’ next serve would go into the net and Glenn would take advantage to the tune of six straight points. Tippy Valley would call timeout down 21-16 to calm things down, but it wouldn’t be enough. Glenn would take set two 25-18.
In the third set, the Lady Vikings would take their biggest lead of the night to that point at 9-4. The Falcons would have an answer once again and tie the game. The visitors would end up taking the lead and extending it all the way to five at 21-16. A timeout called by Valley’s head coach Ashley Derf would pay dividends, as the team would rally to shrink the lead to 22-21. The rally would continue all the way to victory with Tippy Valley would win the game 26-24.
Riding the momentum of the previous set’s comeback, the Lady Vikings blitzed Glenn to begin the fourth set, taking a 10-6 lead and forcing a timeout. Right on cue, the Falcons were there with another answer, tying the set at 12. The teams would go back and forth, trading points once again as the scores began to pile up. A great save by Erika Henderson would give Tippy Valley a 20-19 lead, but it would not hold. Tied at 24 for the third time in four sets, this time it would be Glenn who would win it late. After a 26-24 victory by the Falcons, the two sides would gear up for the fifth and final game.
Once again neither team was able to jump out to a big lead early. With the game hanging in the balance, things got interesting. Officials would call for a replay after two straight Glenn points. Both replays would go the other way with Valley picking up the points. Glenn head coach Taylor Kalucki was livid on the sidelines. The Lady Vikings would seize the momentum after the calls and ride it to a 15-9 victory to secure the set and the match.
The Lady Vikings take on Knox at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at home in the sectional semifinal.
