A fourth was tabled for further investigation.
The Commission has to have a quorum (at least three of the four board members present) to hear permits with violations, but can approve renewals without violations with only two members present, according to excise officer April Tackett.
Board members Dan Woods and President Elim Smith were absent from Thursday’s meeting.
The two renewals without violations approved by Tackett and ATC member Alan Alderfer were:
• Wilby’s Inc., doing business as Wilby’s Gas & Goodies, 307 W. Main St., Mentone, beer and wine dealer permit, grocery store.
• Family Express Corporation, doing business as Family Express #82, 409 Argonne Road, Warsaw, beer and wine dealer permit, grocery store.
Tabled to the 1 p.m. June 2 meeting in the old courtroom of the old county courthouse because of violations and not enough ATC members present Thursday were:
• La Troje LLC, doing business as La Troje, 115 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw, beer, wine and liquor permit, restaurant.
• Port Winona LLC, doing business as Port Winona LLC, 807 E. Canal St., Winona Lake, beer and wine retailer permit, restaurant.
• Arrow Um, doing business as Warsaw Seafood, 937 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, beer, wine and liquor permit, restaurant.
Arrow Um was tabled in April to the May meeting because of its violation and no one appeared at the April meeting to explain to the board about the violation. The permit also was recently put into escrow. Two representatives of Arrow Um were at Thursday’s meeting.
The sixth permit on the Commission’s agenda for Thursday was a renewal for a beer and wine retailer permit, restaurant, for Elisabeth Thompson, Mentone.
“That is a renewal in escrow and it’s going to be continued for further investigation regarding the escrow - how long it’s been in escrow, what they’ve been doing with the permit - so they can come before the board and discuss their timeline or their progress or whatever they have,” Tackett stated.
