NCCAA Tourney Coming Next Week To Grace College

The tournament brings 16 elite college teams to Kosciusko County for a unique weeklong experience. The tourney features 24 games played over four days (March 16-19), culminating in the crowning of a men's and women's national champion. All games are played at Grace's Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
General admission tickets are available now for purchase online at www.gclancers.com/tickets.
Games will tip off on Wednesday, March 16, at 8:30 a.m. and will end at 10 p.m. Thursday's games will run from 8:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday will see games played from 1-9 p.m.
Saturday will feature the men’s national championship game at 2 p.m. and the women's championship at 5 p.m.
"We look forward to the 16 college programs that will descend upon our community next week," said Grace Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. "We are thankful that we can host the tournament, and we look forward to a phenomenal championship basketball experience for each team at Grace. We appreciate the NCCAA allowing us to host these prestigious tournaments at Grace College."

SAU Gets Better Of Grace
WINONA LAKE - On a chilly afternoon at Miller Athletic Complex, Grace’s baseball team had a quiet day offensively against Spring Arbor.
The Cougars won the doubleheader by the scores of 6-4 and 4-2. The teams had the same number of hits in each game, but the Lancers were unable to find timely run-producing hits.
In the opening game, both teams recorded 12 hits. But the Lancers hurt their own cause with five errors, allowing Spring Arbor to win 6-4.
Both teams scored in the first inning of the opener. Spring Arbor jumped in front with a two-run home run in the top of the first.
Grace countered with a run of its own in the bottom half. Jeff Pawlik singled, stole second, then charged home after a two-out single by Sam Newkirk.
The teams exchanged a run in the third inning as well. Pawlik drove in Patrick Danforth as Grace trailed 3-2.
SAU managed to keep a slim lead, edging ahead 6-3. Grace threatened to rally late, however. Newkirk plated a run in the eighth to pull Grace within two.
In the ninth, Grace moved runners to second and third with one out. But the Lancers were retired with a strikeout and line out to end the contest.
Pawlik hit 3 for 5 with a run and an RBI. Danforth, Alex Rich and Newkirk each had two hits. Caleb Farney tossed two scoreless innings of relief. Kameron Koch was the starter, yielding two earned runs with five strikeouts across five innings.
The second game was similar with each side tallying five hits. It was SAU’s turn with miscues in the field, however, committing five errors.
The Cougars began the second game in front again. SAU pushed four runs across in the first three innings, and Grace was unable to find an early response.
The Lancers faced that 4-0 deficit until the bottom of the seventh. Grace managed to halve the deficit in the final at-bats before running out of steam.
Newkirk drove in Grace’s first run with a drive to left field, and Chris Griffin brought in another with a ground ball.
Grace had two runners in scoring position with two outs, but the final at-bat was a fly out to end the rally.
Newkirk finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and a steal, Cal Curiel had a hit and two stolen bases, and Tyler Cwik walked and scored.
Evan Etchison tossed the first five innings, allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts. Bret Wilhelmi pitched the final two scoreless innings of relief.
The Lancers will end the series with Spring Arbor on Monday. The teams will meet up at 1 p.m. at Miller Athletic Complex.
