WESTFIELD – The Manchester University baseball team opened its season on Saturday afternoon with a pair of non-conference games at Grand Park. The Spartans opened the day against No. 20 North Central before battling MIAA-member Hope College.

The Cardinals topped the Spartans by a final score of 15-5. The Spartans then fell to the Flying Dutchmen by a final score of 16-5.

Spartan Stats

Junior right fielder Brady Perez (Rochester) led the Spartans against North Central with a 2-4 performance. Perez crushed a pair of home runs to deep center and drove in three runs. Against Hope College, Perez hit an RBI double.

Senior Ryan Mueller (Cincinnati, Ohio) added a two-run single for the Black & Gold against North Central.

Against Hope College, senior Zach White (Logansport) went 2-3 at the plate while driving in a pair of runs.  

First-year Rocco Hanes (Ossian) hit a two-run double against Hope College to round out the afternoon.

The Spartans are scheduled to play at NCAA Division I Butler University on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
