Lady Lancers' Offense Muted In Semifinal Loss

The Lady Lancers (19-13) struggled offensively throughout, producing their second-fewest points of the season.
Grace’s season is not over, however. The Lady Lancers will shift attention to the NCCAA National Championships, hosted by Grace on March 16-19.
Kenzie McMahon started the scoring for Grace right off the opening tip, but it was IWU (27-4) who separated early. The Wildcats held an 11-3 lead three minutes into the quarter.
Karlee Feldman and McMahon scored to end IWU’s 11-0 run, but Grace continued to struggle from the field.
Kiersten Poor scored on a drive to the paint late in the quarter, but a Wildcats 3-point shot sent the game to the quarter break with Grace trailing 20-9.
Poor hit an early trey in the second quarter to cut the lead down to single digits, but both teams went cold from the field over the next three minutes.
IWU scored the next four points to push the lead back to double figures.
Maddie Ryman scored her first points of the game, and Poor converted from beyond the arc as Grace pulled within 24-17.
But IWU scored the last five points of the half, producing a 29-17 lead at halftime.
Grace shot just 24 percent in the first half compared to IWU’s 31 percent. Grace was outrebounded 26-16. Poor led Grace with eight points.
The Wildcats dominated the early portion of the third quarter, building their lead to as many as 22.
Poor slowed IWU’s momentum with an old-fashioned 3-point play. Poor’s score started a 9-0 run for the Lady Lancers.
Feldman scored a pair of tough buckets in the paint as Grace cut the lead down to 41-28 late in the third.
Grace made a pair of runs in the fourth quarter, but the visitors could get no closer than 14 as the Wildcats pulled out the 60-44 win.
“I have to give IWU a lot of credit tonight,” said Grace head coach Dan Davis. “They defended really well and made things hard for us from an offensive perspective. We fell behind early, and that is a hard team to try and come back against. I’m very proud of what these women have accomplished this year, and we look forward to continuing our postseason play here in a couple of weeks.”
Grace finished the game shooting 35 percent from the field, including just 2 of 16 from beyond the arc. The Lady Lancers also had just six assists with 17 turnovers.
Poor led Grace with 14 points. Feldman followed closely behind with 13.
