St. Joseph vs. Warsaw
Warsaw shined bright under the lights of the Champions of Character Classic held at Grace College Saturday. The Tigers defeated St. Joseph 65-48 using a big second half to pull away for the win. Warsaw is now 4-2 this season after coming out on top in its last two contests.
Drew Hackaman put in 19 points and six assists for the Tigers. Jaxson Gould put in 13 points to go with four rebounds. Luke Yeager led the team in rebounds with eight and also finished in double figures scoring with 10.
Warsaw hosts the Tiger Holiday Tournament next week.
Peru at Tippecanoe Valley
Playing its second game in as many nights, Tippecanoe Valley was unable to come away with a home win against Peru Saturday night, falling 51-41. The Vikings are now 5-2 this season, 1-1 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Tayde Kiser and Nolan Cumberland each scored 12 points for Tippy Valley. The Vikings will look to begin a new win streak Thursday when the team hosts South Bend Riley.
Winamac at Manchester
The Manchester Squires remain white hot, throttling Winamac 75-33 Saturday to win their sixth game in a row. Manchester is now 6-1 this winter.
It was a balanced offensive attack that paved the way for the Squires, as three players finished in double figures. Gavin Betten led the team with 16 points, followed by Gavin Martin (14) and Ethan Hendrix (13). Wyatt Prater finished with nine points.
Manchester is off until after Christmas.
Bethany Christian at Lakeland Christian
Lakeland Christian opened up Hoosier Plains Conference play with a close loss Saturday, falling 37-35 at home. The Cougars are now 5-2 this season.
Senior Seth Martin was impressive once again, handling most of the scoring load by putting in 25 of LCA’s 35 points. Lakeland Christian hosts a holiday tournament next week.
Girls Basketball
Wawasee at Warsaw
Warsaw remains undefeated in Northern Lakes Conference play after defeating Wawasee 56-41 at the Tiger Den Saturday night. The Tigers are now 10-3, 3-0 in the NLC, while Wawasee falls to 7-6, 2-2 in the NLC.
Joslyn Bricker was huge off the bench for Warsaw once again, scoring 17 points to lead all players. Zoe Bergan added 12 points to go with five rebounds and six steals. Molly Beer led the Warriors in scoring with 14 points while also contributing eight rebounds.
Wawasee travels to Central Noble Wednesday while Warsaw goes to Huntington North Thursday.
Tippecanoe Valley at Whitko
Tippecanoe Valley won its ninth game in a row Saturday night, defeating Whitko 58-35 on the road. The Lady Vikings are now 12-2 and remain undefeated in the Three Rivers Conference at 4-0. The Lady ‘Cats fall to 5-6 and are still looking for their first TRC win (0-4).
Kaydence Mellott had 19 points for Valley and Carlee Snyder finished with 14 points. The Lady Vikings are off until December 29, when the team will play in a tournament at Trine University. Whitko hosts Prairie Heights on December 27.
Pioneer at Triton
A slow start doomed Triton in its Hoosier North Athletic Conference matchup with Pioneer Saturday at the Trojan Trench. The visitors jumped out to a 16-2 start after a quarter en route to a 49-29 victory. Triton is now 8-6, 0-4 in the HNAC.
Jocelyn Faulkner and Kinsey Atkins each had nine points for Triton. The Trojans play at Bremen Tuesday.
Bethany Christian at Lakeland Christian
Lakeland Christian dropped a home conference game to Bethany Christian Saturday, falling 52-40. The Cougars are now 7-2 this winter.
Katie Reimink led the team in scoring with 13 points. Mattie and Reese Stonebreaker each had eleven. LCA hosts the Cougar Classic holiday tournament starting on December 27.
Warsaw Elementary Basketball Tournament
A near capacity crowd filled the Tiger Recreational Activities Center (TRAC) on Saturday afternoon to watch some impressive and high-stakes basketball being played as a part of Warsaw’s annual elementary basketball tournament.
In the boys tournament, Jefferson, Eisenhower, Lincoln and Harrison advanced from the quarterfinals and into the final four, with Eisenhower and Lincoln prevailing in their respective games to punch their tickets to the championship.
On the girls side, Jefferson, Sacred Heart, Washington and Eisenhower made up the semifinalist after wins in the quarters. Sacred Heart and Eisenhower would come out of their final four games on top and will meet in the finals.
Championship games will be held at the Tiger Den on Wednesday. The boys game will begin first at 5:00 p.m. with the girls game to follow. Estimated start time for the girls game is 6:15 p.m.
