Betty E. Engle, 79, lifetime resident of Warsaw, passed away at Cedarhurst Senior Living in Fort Wayne on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, at 8:30 a.m.

Born in Warsaw on July 26, 1943, Betty was the daughter of Arthur and Anjelle Bibler Huffman. She was a 1961 graduate of Warsaw High School and a longtime member of Warsaw First Brethren Church. She was united in marriage to Larry K. Engle on Sept. 14, 1963. The pair shared 53 years together before his passing in May 2017.

Betty was a hard worker throughout her lifetime. In her earlier years, she worked for Readmore Bookstore and co-owned Engle Electronics. In the 1980s, she began working for Warsaw Community Schools. Her first position was as a crossing guard for the transportation department. Soon after, she accepted a position as school secretary for Lincoln Elementary. She held this position until she earned her “grandma” status in 1995. From 1995 to 2008, Betty graciously babysat her four grandchildren, a job that she loved. She ended her work career in the Vera Bradley department at Warsaw Party Shop in 2018.

Betty will be remembered for her ornery sense of humor, kind-hearted nature and her love of all things family related, from babysitting her grandchildren, to family fishing trips, school sporting events and her beloved pets.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Mark) Shirey and Chris (Todd) Doberstein, Warsaw; four grandchildren: Taylor (Christian Kalacanic) Stiver, Boulder, Colo.; Tanner Stiver, Warsaw; Emily (Corey) Bent, Anderson; and Abigail Doberstein, Warsaw.

Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw, is entrusted with Betty’s care. Friends may gather there on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. Beginning at noon, Pastor Dave Hummel (ret.) will officiate Betty’s funeral service. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are appreciated to Heart to Heart Hospice of Northeast Indiana 5646 Coventry Lane, Fort Wayne, IN 46804.

Condolences may be left for the family at www.TitusFuneralHome.com.
