Grace Baseball Announces Campaign For Tom Roy - UPI Park

WINONA LAKE - Grace College and the Lancers’ baseball program are excited to announce that fundraising is underway for the establishment of Tom Roy - UPI Park.

Grace’s new baseball stadium will be named in honor of Tom Roy, a former head coach for the Lancers and founder of Unlimited Potential, Inc. (UPI), an international, 42-year-old organization that ministers to professional baseball players.

Roy was Grace’s head coach from 1980-84, leading the Lancers to 47 wins and two winning seasons. He has assisted the Lancers for multiple stints over the years and also served as a team chaplain.

“I praise God that UPI has had such an impact around the world and in our hometown. Grace Baseball has held deep meaning to me over the years, so the naming of the stadium is a tremendous honor. For over 60 years, God has used baseball at Grace to impact the Kingdom, and we pray that impact continues for many more decades to come,” Roy said. “We ask that you pray for us through the completion of this campaign as we seek to reach our goals. To God be the glory!”

Grace College sees the construction of this stadium in the same light — as a way to use the sport of baseball to change lives for Christ.

The project includes multiple proposed phases. Phase 1 is committed to providing a new backstop wall and netting system, new dugouts, and an improved warning track. Phase 2 and Phase 3 include potential, future improvements such as new bleacher pads, seats, and a renovated press box.

“We are thankful for the opportunity to announce the establishment of Tom Roy - UPI Park at Grace College! The incredible legacy and impact that Tom Roy has left on the baseball program, the Grace campus and community is something to celebrate!” said Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. “We have received two lead gifts to help launch our project, and we prayerfully look forward to reaching our goal this spring. Our prayer is that this facility upgrade will create ministry opportunities for our coaches, student-athletes, alumni and community members for many years to come.”

Over $200,000 has already been given for the project. In anticipation of meeting the Phase 1 fundraising goal of $350,000, Grace plans to host an official groundbreaking for Tom Roy - UPI Park in April 2023. More information on the groundbreaking will come.

Ryan Roth, now entering the fourth year as Grace’s head coach, was excited for the anticipated impact of the baseball stadium project.

“We are excited for this project as we believe it will greatly aid the growth and development of our program. Our facility is a major pillar of our program, and Tom Roy - UPI Field will not only help us recruit and train better but will also build a bigger platform for ministry,” Roth said. “Tom has been a close friend of mine for many years, so seeing him being honored in the naming of this stadium has a lot of meaning.”

Those interested in joining the fundraising campaign can either contact Grace A.D. Chad Briscoe or head coach Ryan Roth. Funds are also being given directly online at www.gclancers.com/baseballproject
