Volleyball

Fort Wayne Concordia at Warsaw

WARSAW – Warsaw volleyball opened up its season in heart-stopping fashion, coming back to defeat Fort Wayne Concordia 3-2 (25-17, 22-25, 22-25, 25-10, 15-15) to get a non-conference win Tuesday.

Kaylee Weeks was very busy for the Tigers, leading the team in kills with 18 and also adding an ace. Avery Hales picked up where she left off last season, leading the team in assists with 48. Freshman Ellie Hepler left her mark in her first varsity match, finishing with three aces and 19 digs, both team highs.

Warsaw travels to Huntington North for its next game Thursday.

Tippecanoe Valley at Wawasee

SYRACUSE – Wawasee volleyball defended its home court in a non-conference match up against fellow area school Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday. The Warriors won the match 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-19. Wawasee improves to 1-0 this season, while the Lady Vikings fall to 1-1.

Wawasee travels to Fairfield Thursday while Tippy Valley has a tournament at Plymouth Saturday morning.

Whitko at Lakeland Christian

WINONA LAKE – Whitko defeated Lakeland Christian in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night to open up both team’s seasons. The Wildcats will host Columbia City Thursday night while Lakeland Christian travels to Community Baptist on Friday.

Peru at Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester volleyball opened up its season with a conference win over Peru Tuesday, coming away with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-21,25-23, 25-15) victory.

Olivia Davis led the Lady Squires in kills with 13. Aliala Atienza led the team in both aces with three and digs with 14. Manchester was dominant serving the ball all evening long, finishing with eight aces as a team.

The Lady Squires’ next matchup comes Thursday when the team travels to Oak Hill.

Boys Soccer

Warsaw at Argos

ARGOS – Warsaw soccer picked up a dominant win to remain undefeated on the young season Tuesday, defeating Argos 8-0 in a non-conference matchup. The Tigers are now 2-0 this season.

Six different Tiger players scored goals in the match, highlighted by Noah VanPuffelan’s hat trick. Also getting in on the scoring were Robrerto Sanchez, Knox Ritter, Pedro Lucas, Isaiah Lara and Callen O’Brien. Nehemiah Wright and Raul Carbajal combined for a shut out in goal.

Warsaw hosts St. Joseph Thursday evening.

Tippecanoe Valley at Caston

ROCHESTER – Tippecanoe Valley started its season with a big non-conference win over Caston Tuesday, winning the match 6-0.

Gio Arriaga left his mark on the game in a big way as the junior finished with a hat trick. Also making a big contribution was freshman Andreas Rosas, who added two goals of his own as well as an assist. Tyler Jones made four stops in goal.

Tippy Valley hosts Wabash to open up Three Rivers Conference play Tuesday, August 23.

Wawasee at Westview

TOPEKA, In. – Wawasee boys soccer will look to move on to its next game after opening up the season with a tough 7-0 road loss to Westview. The Warriors travel to Riley Thursday.

Elkhart Christian at Lakeland Christian

WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Christian boys soccer scored first but was unable to hold onto an early lead in its season opener, falling 2-1 to Elkhart Christian.

Jashawn Zielasko scored the lone Cougar goal in the 21st minute off of an assist from Zeb Stills. Lakeland Christian plays its next game Saturday morning at Bethany Christian.

Girls Golf

Warsaw at Homestead

FORT WAYNE – Warsaw golf suffered a defeat at the hands of Homestead Tuesday, falling 164-190 at Chestnut Hills golf club.

Leading the pack for the Tigers was Olivia Robinson-Gay with a 40, followed by Abbey Peterson’s 41. Warsaw travels to Tippecanoe Valley Thursday.

Boys Tennis

Triton at John Glenn

WALKERTON – Triton opened its season on the road at John Glenn Tuesday, dropping the match 5-0.

Caden Large and Damon Kuntz fought hard in the No. 1 and 2 singles spots, but both suffered the same 1-6, 2-6 loss. Triton will look for its first win Thursday at Rochester.

Whitko at Fort Wayne Northrop

FORT WAYNE – Whitko boys tennis picked up a win Tuesday night, defeating non-conference foe Fort Wayne Northrop 3-2 on the road. The Wildcats next match is Monday when the team hosts Columbia City.
