White & Mollenkopf Guide Spartans to 5-4 Win

Senior Zach White (Logansport) and first-year Maverick Mollenkopf (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) helped guide the Black & Gold to a 5-4 win over the Thunder.
Spartan Stats
White got the Spartans on the scoreboard in the top of the 3rd inning on Sunday as he cranked a three-run home run to left. A couple of innings later, White would add an RBI single to put Manchester in front 4-1. On the day, White finished 2-4 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored.
Mollenkopf had a strong outing on the mound for Manchester against the Thunder. Mollenkopf threw seven innings, allowing only three runs on seven hits. He punched out eight batters on the day – five of which he struck out looking.
Blake Lynch (Libertyville, Ill.) threw the other two innings on Sunday and allowed only a walk and an unearned run.
Ivan Winkle (Plymouth) added two hits for Manchester.
Harrison Pittsford (Ellettsville) added an RBI against the Thunder on Sunday. Pittsford rounded out a monster weekend at the plate – through three games this weekend, Pittsford finished 6-10 with 10 RBI and four runs scored.

Manchester is scheduled to play at Huntington in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

Late Homer Sinks Spartan Softball
NORTH MANCHESTER – The visiting Franklin College Grizzlies swept Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader against the Manchester University Spartans.
The Grizzlies edged the Black & Gold by a 3-1 final in Saturday's opener. The Grizzlies then rallied in the top of the 7th inning behind a grand slam by Genesis Munoz in Game 2 of the day to steal a 6-3 win.
Spartan Stats
First-year Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso) collected a pair of hits in both contests on Saturday. Carr doubled and scored a run in the opener. She followed with two runs scored in the second game of the afternoon.
Delayne Sanchez (Osceola) drove in one run on Saturday while senior Lizzie Smith (Indianapolis) collected three RBI across Saturday's twin bill.
Senior Day
Lizzie Smith was honored with an on-field presentation as a part of Senior Day festivities on Saturday.

Another Record Falls as Spartan Conclude Tune Up at Ohio Northern
ADA, Ohio – The Manchester University track & field teams competed in their final tune up ahead of next weekend’s Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the Mike Becraft Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
A new school record, two event wins, and numerous podium placements and new Top 10 marks highlighted this weekend’s performances.
Enrique Salazar (Plymouth) set yet another school record, this time in the 1500m. Salazar’s time of 3:53.86 broke Tom Lower’s record – a record which had stood for more than 40 years (1980). Salazar’s time was also a new meet and facility record at Ohio Northern. The previous facility record had stood since 1991 (Jeff Prowles of Mount Union, 3:58.39).
Carley Camp (Logansport) won the shot put on Saturday with a leading mark of 12.75m. Camp also added a third-place finish in the hammer throw on Friday night with a mark of 46.42m. Her mark was a new season best and still ranks as the 5th best mark all-time at Manchester.
Podium Finishes (Top 3)
Men
Joe Garling (Cedar Lake) placed third in the hammer throw event on Friday night at Ohio Northern. Garling’s mark of 49.77m was a new personal record and moved him up to 2nd all-time on the MU Top 10 listings.
Joseph Powell (Beach Park, Ill.) added a third-place finish in the javelin thrown on Friday night. Powell turned in a final mark of 44.49m
Gabe Melvin (Jacksonville, Fla.) placed third in the 100m dash on Saturday. Melvin ran a personal-best time of 10.89 – the 2nd fastest mark in program history. Duriel Moss Jr. (Homestead, Fla.) also broke into the all-time Top 10 on Saturday after crossing the finish line at 11.08 seconds – good enough for 10th all-time.
Thomas Richardson (Ladoga) placed third in the 3000m steeplechase after clocking a time of 10:06.81.
The men’s 4x100 meter relay team of Tristen Bronaugh, Duriel Moss Jr., Gabe Melvin, and Quentin Willis combined for a third-place finish after posting a time of 42.81. Their time was a new season-best and bumped them up to 2nd all-time on the MU Top 10 listing. Bronaugh (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville) would also break into the all-time Top 10 listings in the 200m. His time of 22.28 was a new PR and stands as the 5th fastest all-time.
Women
Madison Haines (Warsaw) placed second in the discus on Saturday afternoon. Haines posted a final mark of 29.71m.
Adelle Stanko (Okemos, Mich.) earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump. Stanko turned in a mark of 10.25m.
Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne) ran to a third-place finish in the 800m after crossing the finish line with a time of 2:28.63. Fellow Spartan Lauren Smith (Anderson, Ind./Lapel) finished right behind Lohman with a time of 2:29.32.
* Brandi Smith (Goshen) broke into the MU Top 10 listings after running a 27.02 in the 200m dash. Smith’s time stands as the 9th fastest mark in school history.
Up Next
Both the men and women placed 4th overall as a team this weekend. The men earned 71.5 team points while the women scored 64 team points.
Manchester will compete in the HCAC Championships on Friday and Saturday, April 29 & 30, hosted this spring at Hanover College.
