DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Manchester University softball team dropped a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Defiance College on Wednesday afternoon.

The host Yellow Jacket swept the doubleheader after topping the Spartans by final scores of 2-0 and 12-4.

Spartan Stats

Defiance College plated the only two runs of Wednesday’s opener in the 1st inning. DC starting pitcher Taylor Biggs scattered seven hits while striking out six batters in the winning effort.

For Manchester, both Morgan Michael (Quincy, Mich.) and Brianna Morrow (Atlanta, Ill.) collected two hits.

In the second game of the day, Defiance raced out to a 10-0 lead.

Manchester was able to four runs, scoring once in the top of the 4th and three times in the top of 5th.

Current HCAC Hitter of the Week Delayne Sanchez (Osceola) and Lizzie Smith (Indianapolisl) both drove in a run in Game 2.

Up Next

The Spartans will host Senior Day on Saturday April 23 against the Franklin College Grizzlies.

Game time from the MU Softball Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.



Baseball Drops Non-Conference Contest At Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE – The Manchester University baseball team was in action on Wednesday night, playing a single nine-inning non-conference game at NAIA Indiana Tech.

The Warriors managed to knock off the Spartans by a final score of 14-4 at Warrior Baseball Field.

Spartan Stats

Manchester was unable to rally from an early 5-1 deficit.

Colin Turner (Goshen) led Manchester with a 2-3 performance at the plate. Turner also had one RBI on the evening.

Paul Borrow (Bloomington) also drove in a run, hitting a run-scoring triple in the top of the 1st inning.

Ivan Winkle (Plymouth) was also credited with an RBI.

Indiana Tech collected 11 hits. Three Warriors had multi-hit days.

Manchester will return to HCAC play this weekend when the Spartans host Transylvania University at Gratz Field on Saturday April 23.

First pitch this weekend is scheduled for 12 p.m.
