WINONA LAKE – The Grace Shooting Sports Club (GSSC) at Grace College recently competed at the national level in San Antonio, Texas, for the first time in team history. Grace took seventh place in its division for American Trap against 40 other teams, posting scores of 96, 96, 96, 95, and 91 out of 100 to secure the top-ten finish. Throughout the weeklong competition sponsored by the Association of College Unions International, individual team members also recorded a number of personal bests.

“I am so proud of our team, not only for performing so well at this competition but for also representing Grace College in a notable way,” stated Paul Blair, GSSC head coach and chief operations officer at Grace.  “We continually get positive compliments on how our students conduct themselves when competing and how it is a fresh change compared to many of the other teams.”

The Grace team competed against more than 1,000 athletes from nearly 100 teams from across the country and participated in six different events: trap, trap doubles, skeet, skeet doubles, sporting clays and super sporting clays. The team shot 600 targets over the course of the four-day event.

GSSC is a recreational shotgun shooting club that focuses on promoting gun safety, enhancing shooting skills and connecting with the shooting community. The group strives to promote a positive image of shooting sports, provide opportunities for leadership development and enhance community awareness of safe shooting practices.  The GSSC is open to all Grace students and meets twice a month at KOSKO Shotgun Sports Complex, 2391 Fox Farm Road, Warsaw. Practices include shooting a variety of sporting clays, traps and skeet.
