Men's XC Jumps into NAIA Top 35

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The men's cross country team moved up the ranks in the NAIA polls, coming in at No. 19 after two strong performances to open the 2021 season. The ranking is believed to be the second highest in school history, trailing only a No. 15 ranking accomplished 19 years ago in 2002.

The Lancers have benefited from competition against several nationally-ranked squads. In meets at Indiana Wesleyan and Taylor, Grace trailed only teams ranked above them in the NAIA polls, including four currently mentioned in the top 10. The Lancers set a team record at Indiana Wesleyan with a 2:10.17 team time, which is the total time of the top five finishers.

"The ranking is a fantastic nod towards our men's team and all of their intentional work," said Coach Jake Poyner. "They're on a mission and I believe this only strengthens their resolve to prepare and strive for excellence."

The young men's team does not have a senior among its top seven runners, which features four juniors, a sophomore and a pair of freshmen.

On the women's side, Grace received votes in the NAIA polls and is currently listed at No. 36.

Next up for the Lancers will be the Greater Louisville Classic on October 2, a meet featuring strong competition from multiple college divisions.
