KEDCO Gives County Redevelopment Commission An Update

By Jackie Gorski-

Greg Fitzloff, business development partner with the Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation, gave an update of what the organization was working on to Kosciusko County Redevelopment Commission Thursday.

Fitzloff updated the Commission of some of the construction updates that are going on in the area.

The Louis Dreyfus Company expansion in Claypool has been an ongoing project, Fitzloff said.

Recently, working with Paragon in Pierceton, they will hopefully be announcing a major expansion of their facility later in the month, he said.

There’s other projects that are being in worked on in the area, Fitzloff said. Activity is being ramped up.

In regards to housing, Fitzloff said he believes there are 15 housing projects that KEDCO or one of its affiliates are involved in. Of those 15 projects, they are scattered over eight different communities in Kosciusko County. Each of the projects have its own lifespan and timeline.

Over the next 90 to 120 days, he thinks the area will see a little bit more activity in terms of the projects coming to fruition. A lot of the projects are going to be single-family residences in the communities and approximately four of those projects are multi-family apartment-type projects.

He has a meeting with Kosciusko County Area Homebuilders to see how they can be involved.

In July, KEDCO put out its beta version of its jobs board. Fitzloff said KEDCO has had good success in posting jobs to the board. The board is for county employers posting jobs for $14 an hour or higher.

The quality of the jobs in the area have been very good and has seen more activity.

There have been two additional loans from KEDCO’s revolving loan fund that have been awarded in the last 60 days for small businesses.

Commission President Jan Orban asked how big the loans were for. Fitzloff said he believed both were for $25,000.

Commission member Joni Truex asked if there’s still funds left in the revolving loan fund. Fitzloff said yes. He didn’t have the ledger in front of him, but he believed there were several thousand dollars left.
