Until Monarch Medical Esthetics opened at 738 E. 200N, there wasn’t a medical spa in Warsaw, owner Linda Moore said in an interview before a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce. People had to drive to South Bend or Fort Wayne.
“To have it here is convenient for teenagers, millennials, men, women. We service all people in this community,” she said.
When a person goes to a “regular” spa, they might get their hair done, get a facial, maybe a facial massage. “Medical esthetics is medical, so the medical practice of beauty and anti-aging,” Moore explained.
Some of the procedures Monarch offers includes botox and other neural modulators to relax fine lines and wrinkles; and IV nutrition therapy for immunity, beauty, health and wellness.
Moore said IV nutrition therapy is really important now, not just because of COVID and all its variants, but also because people who had COVID have weakened immune systems so something as “simple” as a common cold is a little more “aggressive.” “We are really proud that we can offer that here and it really helps people with compromised immune systems,” she said.
Monarch also offers hair regrowth therapy, permanent cosmetics and dermal fillers. Dermal fillers volumize the face and can help with scarring.
“We do then all laser treatment, so laser hair removal, facial rejuvenation, all of that. And our favorite thing is right now we utilize stem cells for anti-aging,” Moore said. “We use your own stem cells. We take your blood and we centrifuge it and we extrapolate the fibrin from the stem cells. And then we can inject them back into your face. If you have scars or hair loss or just aging, those stem cells then rejuvenate and cause a healing effect, producing collagen. That’s really great to be able to use your body to anti-age itself.
“And that’s really where esthetics is going, the trend in esthetics, is called bio-stimulation. How can you get your own body to heal and anti-age yourself. So we do a lot,” she said.
Monarch also does all the basic stuff like relaxing, facial and skin care.
The stereotype of someone who goes to a medical spa is a woman in her 50s or older. “The truth is, when we do see men, they outspent women for treatments. The millennials – because of awareness about skin health, because of increase in cancer, because of being more conscientious about sun damage, pollution – millennials really are a target for medical esthetics. ... So there’s a lot more awareness about skin health. And the thing is, I tell people this all the time, your skin is the largest organ in your body and you have to take care of it, but most people don’t know how to take care of it.”
She said it’s not just the skin on your face. It’s also your head, arms and body.
“So we’re here to educate and help people understand that,” Moore said.
Monarch opened in September, but everyone got COVID in November and they had to close. Everyone got well, but Moore said as a medical facility they’re still very conscientious about safety.
“We always wear masks when we treat patients, whether that’s COVID or not, and we allow our patients the freedom to choose if they want to or not,” she said.
When cancer patients undergo chemotherapy, they can lose their facial hair and hair on their head. “COVID patients ... a few months after people have COVID they lose hair, so (we’re) helping them grow that back and stimulate growth. Whether you have some scarring on the eyebrows or you lost all the eyebrows to cancer – this is for men and women – we do what’s called micro-blading and we actually design hair-like strokes to make eyebrows so they look real,” Moore explained.
Some people may watch something through media and be hesitant to get a procedure because it’s way over done. They might see the big lips and frozen faces. Other times, Moore said, people may get “too many” ideas of what they want done.
“Or they just think, ‘I want to feel better. I want to look better.’ People go through different periods of their life and unfortunately, right now, there’s a lot of negativity and depression,” she said. “By coming to a consultation, we encourage positivity and everyone is beautiful, and we just want to enhance their own natural beauty. So we do free consultations for any patient just so they have a time to share their thoughts with us and we then can educate and guide them in the right directions.”
A lot of times insurance won’t cover the procedures Monarch offers because they’re considered elective. However, some Health Savings Accounts can be used, and Monarch offers payment plans because it can be expensive.
“Medical esthetics, when you come, usually you’re like, ‘I’m ready to treat myself.’ We hear that. We hear, ‘I’m ready for some self-care.’ We hear, ‘I’m just not feeling good about myself.’ Or, men and women both, they work all the time, they’re like, ‘I just have let myself go.’ Those are common things we hear and we just go from there. We try to work with people’s finances. And then we offer specials every month so that it helps with affordability,” Moore said.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and by appointment some Saturdays are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We do that because we believe in families. We employ mostly women and we like for them to have that Monday,” Moore said.
