LCA Kickers Fall To Argos Dragons

Playing without two starters Thursday evening, the Cougars - in Miller’s words - competed with the Argos Dragons before falling 3-0.
“We’re pretty young this year,” said Miller, whose team’s roster lists just three seniors. “I was a little short-handed tonight, I had two starters out - one’s on vacation and another is sick.
“But, I liked our team spirit, especially after our last game where we lost 7-0 to Winamac and didn’t show much heart. Tonight was much better, we competed tonight, which I was happy to see.”
Argos, now 3-2 overall with its third straight shutout, dominated possession and played the majority of the 80-minute contest on the Cougars’ half of the field.
Despite the overwhelming number of scoring opportunities for the visiting Dragons, the match was scoreless for 30 minutes.
Argos sophomore Sean Richard changed that with a goal in the 30th minute, followed by a goal from senior teammate Teddy Redinger in the 39th minute.
Senior Dylan Kindig’s goal in the 64th minute accounted for the final score, dropping the host Cougars to 1-4 on the season.
“We gave up two goals in the first seven minutes in our last game, so we really challenged the guys,” said Miller “Argos is an awesome program, and we know stylistically how they play and how well-coached they are.
“We wanted to make it as difficult as possible for them to break us down, and I thought we did a pretty good job. We had a couple lapses. They were able to get guys at the back post, but that’s what they do, they get to the flag and they cross it in. We just had a couple individual lapses there that allowed them to get a goal.”
Argos had 21 shots on goal to LCA’s one, which was stopped by Argos senior keeper Kurt Johnson.
LCA senior Peter Koller made 18 saves.
The Cougars are in action again Saturday when they host New Prairie.
