BLUFFTON – Audra Brandenburg has eight kills and four blocks, both team highs for Whitko in its 25-15, 25-19, 25-22 victory over Three Rivers Conference and neighboring rival Manchester in the opening round of the Class 2A Sectional 38 volleyball tournament Thursday night at Bluffton.

Abigail Frank had four aces, six kills and 17 digs for the Wildcats. Madison Cripe matched Frank’s 17 digs. Reese Bradford was credited with 19 assists.

McKelvey Espeset had six kills, two blocks and two digs for Manchester (9-19). Aliala Atienza has 11 digs, and Paxton Baker had 18 assists, nine digs and a kill.

Whitko (11-20) will face host Bluffton (9-16) in today’s second semifinal around 12:30 p.m. The winner will face either South Adams (24-8) or Adams Central (12-16) in tonight’s championship match.



Triton Wins In the Trojan Trench

BOURBON – Triton defended its home court Thursday in the Class 1A Sectional 50 tournament Thursday night, rolling to a 25-10, 25-12, 25-10 win over LaCrosse.

Addyson Viers has 12 kills, four blocks, three aces and four digs for the Lady Trojans. Kinsey Atkins had 11 digs, six aces and a kill in the winning effort.

Triton (21-11) faces West Central (2-19) in the first semifinal around at 10:30 this morning. The second semifinal features Oregon-Davis (8-15) and Argos (1-15).

The sectional title match is set for 7 p.m.



Chargers Sweep Vikings At Lakeland

LAGRANGE – Tippecanoe Valley saw its volleyball season draw to a close after a 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 loss to West Noble at the Class 3A Sectional 21 tournament at Lakeland High School Thursday night.

The Lady Vikings finish with a record of 18-11. West Noble advances to take on Jimtown at 11 a.m. today, then NorthWood, who swept the host Lakeland Lakers, take on Wawasee in the other semifinal. The winners play in the sectional title match at 7 p.m. tonight.



Cougars Swept by Pioneer Panthers

WABASH – Lakeland Christian Academy closed its inaugural season in the IHSAA with a 25-9, 25-9, 25-11 loss to Pioneer in the Class 1A Sectional at Southwood High School Thursday night.

The Cougars finished the 2021 season with a 1-8 record.
