Traci Shuttz said the law firm opened Feb. 14. She said both her and law partner Blake Reed’s families have been coming to the area since the late 1990s. Their families were friends and the two kind of grew up together. Shuttz’s parents permanently moved to the area, so she followed them. Shuttz and Reed thought it was a good time to see what they could do as far as a law practice, Shuttz said.
Reed went to law school at Valparaiso University and Shuttz went to Ohio Northern University.
They were family friends and both ended up going to law school and they both wanted to do something together, so Reed & Shuttz was the result, Shuttz said. Shuttz also has a law firm she’s a partner with in Indianapolis. Reed has a law firm he’s a partner with in Terre Haute, as well.
She said the law firm practices a variety of types of law: criminal, civil, family law, wills, trust and estates. The only thing Reed & Shuttz doesn’t do is personal injury.
“So everything other that, we can cover, cover the gambit,” Shuttz said.
Reed primarily covers the family law and criminal side, but Shuttz said both are able to cover everything.
Reed and Shuttz are the only two staff.
They did some market research and found the area seems to be a little underserved for attorneys. There is also a few attorneys that may be retiring before too much longer. Shuttz said she and Reed thought it was a good time to get their name established so when those attorneys do get to the point they’re ready to retire, Reed & Shuttz can be there to serve the community.
Typically, hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., but Shuttz said they’re flexible if people need to come in on the weekend. They do that by appointment by calling 574-306-2186, emailing [email protected] or message them through their Facebook page.
