HARTFORD CITY – William “Bill” Joseph Zimmerman, 83, passed away at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Hartford City on July 4, 1937, to Herman W. Zimmerman Sr. and Edith Mae Dalton Zimmerman.

Bill graduated from Hartford City High School in 1955. He married Marlene Sue Rench 51 years ago.

He retired in 1999 from GM-Fisher Body in Marion where he was an assembly line inspector. Bill was raised Pentecostal and enjoyed listening to Jimmy Swaggart on Sunday mornings. He was a member of the Hartford City AMVETS. He enjoyed being outside and was an avid fisherman, he enjoyed his summers at Pike Lake in Warsaw and bowled on the Monday Night Booster League. He also enjoyed coon hunting with his black and tan dogs.

Bill will be sadly missed by his wife, Marlene Sue Zimmerman, of Hartford City; children: Debra Shaffer, of Muncie; and Michael (wife, Julie) Zimmerman, of Montpelier; grandchildren: Brittany Shaffer, Ashley (husband, Joseph) Higdon, Corey (wife, Kortney) Zimmerman, Amy Gibson, Nicholas Zimmerman and Logan Zimmerman; great-grandchild, Garon Zimmerman; sister-in-law, Della Zimmerman; several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Edith Zimmerman Sr.; son, Randal Zimmerman; siblings: Herman Zimmerman Jr., Linda Drill, Phillip Zimmerman, Thaddeus Zimmerman and Robert “Bobby” Zimmerman.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 24 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City. Burial will follow at Hartford City Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Due to COVID-19, we want to make families and visitors our utmost priority. We ask that rules and regulations according to the CDC be followed while in our facility. We ask that you practice social distancing and we have hand sanitizer available. Masks are requested and recommended at the funeral home. We would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience.
