Teams Compete At Max Truex Invitational

Penn, who demonstrated a combination of depth and dominance last Friday evening, used nine first-place finishes, particularly in the sprints and hurdles, to earn 134 points.
Penn’s first included wins in the 100-meter dash, the 110-meter high hurdles, the 200-meter dash, the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, the 800-, and 3200-meter runs, and the 1600-meter relay. The Kingsmen also took high jump and discus throw honors.
Valparaiso (3200m relay), Homestead (pole vault), Carroll (400m, 400m relay), LaPorte (long jump) also earned gold-medal honors.
The scramble for second place, however, among three contenders was a more exciting finish for teams and their fans to track. Carroll (96.5), Warsaw (89), and Valparaiso (86) relied on the teams’ depth in the second place through eighth place finishes to attain their final team finishes.
Other participating schools were Homestead (60), LaPorte (47.5) Berrien Springs, MI (39.5), Fort Wayne Wayne (27.5), and Hobart (15).
There were no meet records broken last Friday,
Outstanding Sprinter Award recipient, Penn’s Vinny Nierzwicki, won convincingly in his 110- and 300-meter hurdle events with respective times of 14.77 and seconds. Nierzwicki also cleared 6’0” to earn top individual high jump honors.
Warsaw’s duos in the 1600-meter run (Sam Lechlitner 4:38.80, Luke Nier 4:55.06) and shot put (Trace Stookey and Will Wells 45’9” each) picked up wins for the Tigers.
Warsaw’s Jeremy Johnson (400m – 52.58 sec.) took an individual phot-finish win.
The Tigers will celebrate Senior Night this Wednesday when they host Plymouth and Northwood.
