Good Weekend For Tiger Baseball; Tiger Softball Lands Split

Concord visited the Lake City Friday, and jumped on Warsaw with a three-run opening inning, but pitcher Joey Springer and his Tiger defense shut out the Minutemen thereafter, adding a four-run fourth inning and a three-run sixth inning using their bats and aggressive baserunning (five thefts) to reverse their fortunes.
Springer also fanned eight Concord batters, and he helped his cause scoring two runs on one hit, and batting in two Warsaw runners. Alex Light slapped two of the host’s eight singles, and Patrick Zollinger, Drew McCleary, and Same Justice added two RBIs apiece.
The Tiges returned to action Saturday morning and pitched a four-hit shutout by committee in a road win over the Squires. Consecutive two-run innings in the second and third frames were all the guests needed to down Manchester.
Justice pitched four innings, allowing four hits and throwing four strikeouts. Similar to Springer’s Friday win, Justice helped his own cause at the plate batting 2-3, scoring two runs and batting in another.
Light, Josh Shapiro, and Kyle Showley each retired their respective sides, three-up and three-down, in the fifth through seventh innings.
The Tigers have a busy week ahead hosting Mishawaka today, heading into the second round robin of NLC action hosting Wawasee Wednesday, traveling to Goshen Friday, and returning home Saturday to host Rochester.
SOFTBALL
The weekend started well for the Warsaw Tigers’ softball team with a 7-1 Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) win at Concord Friday evening. The following morning at Huntington North, however, was soured by a 13-2 loss for the orange and black. Results of the second game of the Saturday doubleheader in Huntington was not available.
Tori Tackett gave up one run, four hits, and struck out 13 batters from the mound for the win, and the Tigers, leading 2-0 entering the top of the seventh inning, put the Minutemen away with a five-run burst. The win put Warsaw at 5-1 in the NLC, behind Mishawaka (2-0) and Northridge (6-0).
Kali Ousley led the offensive output with a 2-4 evening at the plate, scoring one run, batting in another, and stealing base once. Lindsey Bradley added an RBI double for Warsaw. Kendyll Landis added a two-run single, while teammate Avery Sleeth added an RBI single.
The Huntington North Vikings silenced the Tiger bats the following morning, holding Warsaw to one hit in a game ended in five innings due to the ten-run mercy rule. The victors, on the other hand, belted out seven extra-base hits, four doubles, one triple and two home runs.
Landis, the only Tiger with a base hit Saturday morning, scored a run, and batted in Mak Holder for another run.
The loss moved Warsaw to 7-4 before the unreported second game of the double-header.
The Tigers will launch a busy May (14 games) when they travel to Mishawaka and Wawasee today and Wednesday respectively, then host Goshen (Friday), and Rochester (Saturday).
