Now you don’t have to drive to Mishawaka or Fort Wayne for some fun axe throwing.

Super Geeks – owned by Rich, Mike and Justin Syndram – now offers the recreational activity and more at 322 N. Detroit St., Warsaw.

“All this used to be eSports lounge in here. We had PCs and all the consoles set up, but COVID pretty much wiped that out, and we decided to do some research and see what way we wanted to try to move and advance,” Rich said before the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.

Seeing the popularity of axe throwing for fun growing in cities like Fort Wayne and Mishawaka, and enjoying the activity themselves, the Syndram family decided to jump into that.

“We still offer all the other hobby stuff and all the other geek and nerd things – D&D, Magic, we do sports card collectibles now, pretty much anything along the tabletop,” Rich said.

The axe throwing is set up similar to a bowling alley with lanes. “The difference is you’re throwing something a little more sharp,” he joked. “It has a foul line.”

You can either walk in to throw axes, as Super Geeks will always have at least one lane available for walk-ins, Rich said, or make reservations.

“If you reserve ahead of time, it’s $20 an hour per person,” he said. Games don’t take long, and Rich said people might get tired before the hour is up.

There’s two different game methods. In the first one, the first person to 21 points wins. In league style, every player gets 10 throws and the highest score at the end of the 10 throws wins, just like bowling.

When a person or group comes to throw axes at Super Geeks, Rich said a guide will go over the rules, show them the methods of throwing an axe and stay by their side until the group feels comfortable and no longer needs the guide.

He said there are two methods to axe throwing. One is to throw an axe with two hands over the head or with one hand by your side. Rich does both.

A person must be 11 years old or older to throw an axe. “We’ll watch the 11-year-olds. As long as they’re strong enough to be able to throw the axe 12 feet, they’ll be approved to play,” Rich said. Anyone 17 or younger has to have their parent or guardian with them to throw axes.

The Super Geeks website is being rebuilt with online booking software, but eventually people will be able to schedule axe throwing via that site. Until then, they can make a booking through messaging on Facebook or call the store at 574-549-9978.

Super Geek’s grand opening is Saturday, March 13.

“We’re opening the café finally. New menu. We’re specializing in sliders and hot dogs, all-beef hot dogs,” Rich said. “Then, we’re just going to let people come in, if they want to reserve an hour and play some. We’re going to leave one of the lanes open and let people come in. We’re going to run a different contest throughout the day. Everybody that signs a waiver by (Saturday, March 13) will be entered in to win the grand prize.”

The grand prize is a free reservation for 52 weeks. Rich said that’s a $1,100 package.

The grand opening is 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Rich said for the café, they just wanted to offer items “you can’t find around here. We just wanted to offer something a little different.” There are food items for children, and they’re building up the dessert menu.

“It’s family friendly,” he said of Super Geeks. “If you need something to do in Warsaw, come find us.”

They are open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. New hours may come this summer.
