WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace College is pleased to announce Michael Moffitt Jr. as the next head coach of Grace’s track and field program.

Moffitt served as the director of track and field as well as cross country at Eastern University (Pa.) last year. In his first year, he coached 18 All-Conference performers, 3 conference champions and 1 NCAA national qualifier (who became an NCAA All-American).

Moffitt makes the move back to the Crossroads League after starring as an athlete in the conference. Moffitt was an elite high jumper at Indiana Wesleyan. He won eight national titles in the high jump (two in NAIA, six in NCCAA) during his career.

He qualified twice for the USATF National Championships, and he also was a member of IWU’s basketball team for one season.

“I am truly honored and grateful to President Katip, Coach Briscoe and the search committee for trusting me to lead Grace’s track and field program. Coach Raymond and his staff have done an amazing job growing this program into something special, and I’m excited to build upon that success,” Moffitt said. “Grace is a place that clearly has Christ at the center, and I couldn’t be more excited to meet the team and grow together as we pursue excellence in Christ.”

Upon his graduation from IWU in 2017, Moffitt continued to work at IWU. He was an admissions counselor for a year before transitioning to a graduate assistant coaching role for the Wildcats from 2018-20. He coached multiple NAIA national qualifiers and was on staff in 2019 when IWU’s men were named the NAIA Program of the Year.

His father played collegiate football at Fresno State before playing in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers. His mother was an Olympic-level high jumper who also formerly coached Bethel’s track and field team.

“We are excited for Coach Moffitt to join our family at Grace. He has an extensive background in track and field and a strong knowledge of the NAIA and the Crossroads League,” said Grace Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. “His passion for Christ-centered coaching will serve him well as he continues to build on the great success that our program has enjoyed. We are excited to have him start and look forward to continued excellence both on and off the track.”

Chip Shots: Writing About Writing
“Some things are hard to write about. After something happens to you, you go to write it down, and either you over dramatize it, or underplay it, exaggerate the wrong parts, or ignore the important ones. At any rate, you never write it quite the way you want to.”
