Participants must preregister to attend the tour. Register by Wednesday by going to the Elkhart County Parks website (elkhartcountyparks.org) and finding the event on the Events Calendar page.
Established in the 1870s, Nappanee was created due to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad building its tracks through the southern part of Elkhart County.
Soon, many people began flocking to the new town in order to be close to railroad and all the advantages brought by the train. Nappanee became a center for the lumber industry, furniture making and more.
Staff from the museum will guide participants down Market Street and through the neighborhoods, pointing out the stories behind Nappanee’s history. This history will include the Nappanee Auditorium, The Coppes Hotel, The Hartman Store and the town’s architecture.
