Warsaw’s 13-year sectional boys’ swimming title win streak came to an end last weekend at the hands of Culver Academy (408 points), and the Tigers ended the tournament with a third-place finish (354.5 points) very closely behind Columbia City’s 359-point team runner-up finish.

First place finishers in the sectional hosted by Warsaw automatically earn a berth to the state swim meet, while other finishers wait to see if their state cut qualifying times finish fast enough to earn an at large invitation to the IUPUI Natatorium next weekend.

Warsaw senior Michael Ray had a strong showing at the sectional meet. Ray had an individual win clocking a 48.13 first place finish in the 100 freestyle, and he’ll see if he gets the call from Indy on his 50 freestyle 21.89 second place finish. He anchored the winning 200 medley relay’s 1:39.70 win with Cooper Archer, Ian Wihebrink and Nathan Taylor setting the table for the state-berth clinching win.

The Tigers will hear from Indy this week regarding a trip there for the 200-freestyle relay, turning in a time of 1:30.81 click. Gabe Sowers joined Archer, Wihebrink and Ray as the event’s runner-up finisher.

Wihebrink added another first place showing for the Tigers winning the breaststroke in 1:00.23.

Tippecanoe Valley will wait to hear if Brandon Hoffman will get the call for a bus ride to IUPUI. He placed second in the backstroke (56.94) and third in 100 freestyle (49.88).
