LIGONIER - The Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings continued their winning ways Thursday and will take quite a bit of momentum into 2022.

Playing in the West Noble Classic, Valley’s varsity girls basketball team defeated Lakeland 54-42 in the first round, followed by a 45-27 victory over the host Chargers that upped their season record to 10-5.

The pair of triumphs extended the Lady Vikings’ win streak to seven, and they’ve won 10 of their last 11 games since an 0-4 start to the season.

In the 12-point win over Lakeland, the teams were tied 13-13 after one quarter of play, and then the Lady Vikings led 31-23 at halftime and 42-32 heading into the final frame.

Senior Kaydence Mellott made five treys in the win and led Valley with a game-high 17 points.

Junior Corinna Stiles posted a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore Chesnee Miller chipped in with 10 points.

Junior Peyton Hartsough paced Lakeland with 15 points, classmate Alivia Rasler added nine points, and seniors Kayla Poole and Hayden Frost tallied five points each.

Against West Noble, the Lady Vikings overcame a sluggish third quarter in which they scored just four points.

Valley led the Chargers 12-6 after one quarter of play, 28-17 at halftime and 32-24 at the end of the third quarter.

Mellott led the way with 17 points again, this time hitting four three-pointers along the way.

Stiles flirted with another double-double and tallied eight points and nine rebounds in the 18-point victory.

The Lady Vikings, the only undefeated team in the Three Rivers Conference standings at 4-0, will host league rival Northfield on Jan. 6.

Northfield and Peru are 4-1 in TRC play.
