Pendleton Heights senior Jamison Dunham may have won the battle, but the Warsaw Tigers won the war.

In the first round of the Lake City Classic, the 5-foot-11 Dunham, who entered the contest averaging just under 16 points per game, scored a career-high 34, though the host Tigers pulled out a 69-64 boys high school basketball win Tuesday.

The five-point victory was Warsaw’s third straight win and fourth in five games, as it improved to 5-2 on the season. The Pendleton Heights Arabians fell to 1-6.

South Bend Washington defeated Dwenger 60-53 in Tuesday’s other first-round game.

The Tigers, who led by as many as 13 points, tallied their highest offensive output of the season, doing so behind three double-figure scorers.

Junior Jaxson Gould, who scored a total of 95 points in Warsaw’s previous three games, led the way with 23 points, while senior Judah Simfukwe added 18 points and junior Drew Heckaman chipped in with 15.

Warsaw shot a sizzling 65 percent from the field … Simfukwe was 9 of 9, while Heckaman was 6 of 7.

The Tigers’ efficient offense also made good at the free throw line, converting 12 of 13 attempts.

Warsaw led 19-9 after one quarter of play, 32-29 at halftime and 48-39 heading into the final frame.
