Kosciusko County Redevelopment Commission tabled a decision Thursday on giving Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation funding for a site search for developing more housing in the county.

Alan Tio, KEDCO chief executive officer, said KEDCO has spent much of the year focusing on its housing initiative.

He said he was at the meeting so the Commission and KEDCO could possibly work together on a site search that could be investigated for a development. Ideally, it’s sites that are shovel-ready. Tio said there aren’t many sites in the county that are considered shovel-ready, which is where planning and engineering is advanced enough that – with sufficient funding – construction can begin within a very short time.

Tio said KEDCO can do the work, but they want to make sure KEDCO works together with the county. In order to do that, Tio asked for money from the Commission.

Tio said $25,000 would allow KEDCO to review approximately three to five sites and bring in professionals to help.

Commission member Joni Truex requested the decision be tabled. She requested  Commission President Jan Orban to recuse herself because she’s also on the KEDCO board. Due to that, Truex said they didn’t have enough Commission members to make a quorum.  Commission members Jeremy Mullins, Mike Metzger and Adam Turner were not present at the meeting.

In other business, the Commission approved a meeting/livestream policy.
