A tradition years in the making is once again brightening the holidays for local children in need.

The annual “Shop with a Hero” event also helps build relationships between those children and local police officers, according to a news release from Quality Dining. It takes place at the recently remodeled Burger King restaurant on Frontage Road.

Officers from the Warsaw Police Department and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office will accompany approximately 10 preselected children to dinner and a visit with Santa at Burger King before turning on their squad car lights and heading to Meijer to shop for Christmas gifts.

“We love the way this event connects local youth with the law enforcement officers who serve our community,” said Quality Dining Inc. President John C. Firth. “But it’s also about giving those children an opportunity to have fun and take a break – even if just for one night – from what are often extremely challenging life circumstances.”

The Warsaw Burger King, operated by Quality Dining Inc., is donating approximately $400 in food to volunteers and other family participants.

Dinner at Burger King, 2920 Frontage Road, Warsaw, will be at 6 p.m. From 7 to 8 p.m., the shopping will take place at Meijer, 1200 U.S. 30, Warsaw.
