CHURUBUSCO – Whitko Volleyball dropped its game Tuesday night in three sets to Churubusco 21-25, 10-25, 24-25. The loss drops the Lady ‘Cats record to 1-2 on the year.
Junior Abigail Frank, who finished with six kills and eleven digs, led Whitko. Sophomore Katelyn Cripe handed out nine assists and added ten digs of her own. Audra Brandenburg finished with eleven digs and two kills. Jillian Culp had the team’s only solo block.
Whitko is back in action Thursday when the team heads to Akron to take on Tippecanoe Valley.
Tippecanoe Valley Boys Soccer Wins Thriller Over Wabash
WABASH – Tippecanoe Valley boys soccer picked up its first win of the season Tuesday, defeating Wabash 4-3. The win moves the Vikings record up to 1-2.
Similar to the team’s first two games, Valley got off to an early lead. Sophomore Gio Arriaga and junior Tyler Jones scored goals to put the Vikings up 2-0 midway through the first half. However, defensive breakdowns allowed Wabash to get back into the game, and the teams went into halftime tied 2-2.
With roughly ten minutes remaining in the game, Wabash went ahead 3-2. The Vikings were quick to answer, with sophomore Aiden Kohler scoring an equalizer just two minutes later. The game looked to be headed to extra time, until about 90 seconds left in the game, when jones was tripped in the box, drawing a penalty. Junior Jonathan Ruiz calmly stepped in and netted the penalty kick, giving Valley a 4-3 lead it would hang on to for the win.
Next up for the Vikings is a rematch at Caston Thursday night.
Tippecanoe Valley Volleyball Takes Down Winamac
WINAMAC – Tippecanoe Valley volleyball picked up a straight set win over Winamac Tuesday. The 25-12, 25-16, 25-18 victory moved the Lady Vikings record to 4-2. The win was the third in a row for Valley.
Senior Mallory Durkes came up big for her team in the victory, leading the team with nine kills and 3.5 blocks. Fellow senior Macy Kirchenstein also had a big game, finishing with 18 assists and four aces.
The Lady Vikings play their next game Thursday against Whitko.
Warsaw Girls Golf Defeats Plymouth
Warsaw girls golf team prevailed in a match against Plymouth Tuesday at Stonehenge Golf Club. The Tigers took the victory 174-187.
Olivia Robinson-Gay shot a career best 38, leading Warsaw to victory and medaling in the process. The victory moves the Tigers record to 4-1, with a 1-0 conference record.
Wawasee Volleyball Stays Undefeated
ALBION – Wawasee volleyball improved to 4-0 Tuesday night with a 25-17, 25-14, 25-19 straight set victory over Central Noble.
Junior Amanda Allen filled up the stat sheet for the Warriors, finishing with three aces, 24 assists and eight digs, all team highs. Senior Leslie Vazquez also made strong contributions in the win, picking up 14 kills and five digs.
“This is a long week with eight total matches so it is difficult to maintain our focus,” Warrior head coach Jeff Phillips said. “A little flat tonight overall but a win is a win.”
Wawasee will look to improve to its record to 5-0 against Bethany Christian Thursday.
Wawasee, Manchester Girls Soccer Draw
SYRACUSE – Wawasee and Manchester girls soccer battled it out in a 1-1 draw Tuesday night. Both teams are still searching for their first wins, as Manchester moves to 0-2-1 and Wawasee to 0-3-1.
The Lady Squires were able to get on the board first, as freshman Campbell Bolinger found the net midway through the first half. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Manchester until about five minutes left in the game, when Wawasee sophomore Mikilah Wiggs scored a goal to even the score and send the game to a draw.
Both teams play their next contest Thursday, with Manchester taking on Oak Hill at home, and Wawasee traveling to take on Bethany Christian.
Wawasee Boys Tennis Dominates Against Central Noble
ALBION – Wawasee boys tennis picked up a dominant win against Central Noble, winning 5-0 and moving the team’s record to 4-0.
Holdin Babb was lights out in his singles match, winning both sets 6-0. Joey Harper also played well winning 6-2, 6-0. In the doubles competition, both pairs of Devon Kuhn/Ty Brooks and Grant Brooks/Blaine Baut were terrific, only dropping two games combined in both matches.
The Warriors will look to stay undefeated when they take on West Noble Thursday night.
Warsaw Tennis Defeats Mishawaka Marian
WARSAW – Warsaw boys tennis picked up a 5-0 victory over Mishawaka Marian Monday.
Tristan Anderson and Will Boren both played extremely well in the singles competition, with Boren winning 6-1, 6-0.
The Tigers play their next match Tuesday against Goshen.
