WARSAW – Warsaw volleyball defeated Huntington North 25-9, 25-10, 25-7 to pick up its second win of the season Thursday, improving the team’s record to 2-4.
Sophomore Melaina Hawblitzel and junior Kaylee Weeks led the team with seven kills apiece. Hawblitzel also added a block. The Tigers’ junior captain Avery Hales had three aces, and added 21 assists.
Warsaw next plays Saturday in the Carmel Round Robin Tournament.
Whitko VB Drops Close Contest
COLUMBIA CITY - Whitko volleyball lost a close contest to Columbia City High School Friday of 27-25, 22-25, 28-26, 22-25, 7-15. The Wildcats record fellto 1-1.
Junior captain Morgan Howard did it all in the loss, accumulating a team-high 22 kills and five aces. She also added 2.5 blocks and 14 digs. Sophomore Katelyn Cripe added 28 assists. Whitko plays its next game Tuesday at Churubusco.
Valley VB Grabs 2nd Win Against W. Noble
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley volleyball picked up its second win of the season Thursday against West Noble in straight sets, winning 25-14, 25-19, 25-23.
The win brings the Lady Vikings record to 2-2. Senior Mallory Durkes led the team with eight kills, as well as two blocks. Sophomore Ava Smith added six kills, and senior Brayden Baney contributed with six digs. Valley plays its next game Monday, hosting Goshen.
Viking Boys Soccer Drops Thriller
AKRON - For the second consecutive game, the Tippecanoe Valley boys soccer team started fast but couldn't maintain their lead and lost a tough contest to Northwood 5-3 Thursday.
The loss drops the Vikings record to 0-2.
Junior Jon Ruiz scored his second goal of the season inside a minute to give Valley a 1-0 lead. It remained that way until NorthWood added two goals in the final ten minutes of the half, giving the Panthers a 2-1 halftime lead.
Early in the second half, senior Caleb Petgen scored his first goal of the season to tie the game at two. After NorthWood regained the lead, Ruiz scored his second goal of the match and third of the year to tie the game at three with 12 minutes to play. The Panthers would score two goals in the final ten minutes to win the game.
The Vikings will look for their first win of the season Tuesday, when they’ll travel to Wabash to open conference play.
Viking Boys Tennis Falls to N. Judson
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley boys tennis dropped a close match, 3-2, to North Judson-San Pierre Thursday. Dylan Neese picked up a win for the Vikings in his singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-7(6), 10-5. Cooper Walls and Annakin Pettit picked up a win in their doubles match, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
The Vikings will search for their first win of the season today at Cass.
Wawasee Boys Tennis Remains Undefeated
SYRACUSE – Wawasee boys tennis improved its record to 3-0 with a 4-1 Northern Lakes Conference victory over visitng Plymouth Thursday.
Holden Babb, Joey Harper and Zeke Keim all picked up straight-set victories in their singles matches, with Harper dropping only one game in his 6-0, 6-1 win. Devon Kuhn and Ty Brooks picked up a win in doubles competition, winning 6-4, 6-7(6-8), 6-3.
The Warriors will look to stay undefeated when they take on Central Noble in a non-conference match Tuesday.
Warsaw Girls Golf Wins Three-Way Match Against Valley, Wabash
WARSAW – Just one stroke separated Warsaw and Tippecanoe Valley’s girls golf teams in a three-way match that also included Wabash. The Lady Tigers finished with a 186 score, barely edging out the Lady Vikings score of 187. Wabash would finish with a 205.
Delaine Byron’s 42 led Warsaw. Olivia Robinson-Gay and Abbey Peterson both shot a 47.
Madelyn Weaver, whose score of 41 was the best in the competition, led the way for Valley. Cheney Canada shot a career-low 47.
Both Warsaw and Tippecanoe Valley will play Saturday, with the Lady Tigers hosting the Warsaw Invitational, and the Lady Vikings competing in the Rochester Invitational.
