NORTH MANCHESTER - The Manchester Squires, said head coach Dave McKee, have been playing well as of late.

Tuesday night the veteran coach said his team best its best game of the season.

Hosting the Lakeland Christian Academy Cougars at Good Field, the Squires scored on a penalty kick in the seventh minute of the 80-minute contest and scored two goals in each half of a 4-0 win.

Manchester is now 7-6-1 on the season, while LCA fell to 5-4-1.

“The first goal is always the sweetest,” McKee said of junior Logan Bishop’s PK. “But that second goal legitimized the game.

“If it would have ended up 1-0, even though that was a legit PK, I don’t like to win on PKs, so that second goal was big. It just opened us up, and we played more relaxed. This is the best we’ve played this year.”

Manchester’s second goal, scored in the 38th minute, also came off the foot of Bishop,

Freshman Tyler McClain scored twice in the second half for the hosts, putting the ball in the net in the 55th and 66th minutes.

“We’ve been playing well as of late, we just haven’t been able to score,” said McKee. “And today, two guys that are not big scorers scored.

“Tyler McClain is only a freshman, but he’s coming along. This freshman class gets me excited for the next few years. Tyler McClain is gonna be a tough cookie to deal with.”

Freshmen Casen Vawter assisted on McClain’s second goal.

The Squires are in action again today at Mississinewa, while the Cougars host Tippecanoe Valley Thursday.
