Warsaw, Valley, Wawasee’s Cripe Advance To Golf Regional

In the survive and advance world of the postseason, however, the Warsaw Lady Tigers, Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings and Wawasee’s Taylor Cripe had reason to smile.
The top three teams, as well as the top three individuals not on an advancing team, qualified for Saturday’s regional at Noble Hawk Golf Links in Kendallville.
NorthWood won the team title at Stonehenge with a four-player score of 346, led by medalist Cybil Stillson’s round of 76.
NorthWood’s Breanna Goos (81) and Abigail Richner (87) finished second and third, respectively, as individuals.
The host Lady Tigers advanced as a team after finishing second with their four-player score of 391, while Valley was third at 404.
Cripe advanced individually with an 89.
Rounding out the team scores were Wawasee (409), Rochester (413), Plymouth (415), Whitko (417) and Bremen (468).
Triton had just three players - Madeline Ritchison (115), Haley Rensberger (124) and Lilly Hibert (125) - and did not have a team score.
“We are so excited about it,” said Warsaw coach David James when asked about surviving and advancing as a team. “The girls did exactly what we wanted to do, come out and play smart, play very focused kind of golf.
“We came into this knowing that NorthWood is gonna be there, we were worried about Plymouth being there, and the others being right behind us. So coming in my focus with the girls was just play smart.”
Marie Frazzetta led Warsaw with a 91, while teammates Sydeny Lancaster and Delaney Byron carded 94 and 99, respectively, and Abigail Davis and Brooklyn Fitzgerald shot 107 each.
Byron made her return to the lineup after missing two weeks with a back injury.
A week after winning the Three Rivers Conference for the first time since 2001, Valley advanced to the regional for the second time in program history, and first since the 1898 team finished second in its regional.
Madelyn Weaver paced the Lady Vikings with a 93, while Molly Moriarty carded 97, Cheney Canada 106, Kaydence Mellott 108 and Lily Ault 109.
Valley’s lineup consisted of four sophomores and a junior.
“We played poorly as a team, there was two or three girls that struggled, and it was around the greens. Obviously stonehenge is a lot different, the greens are a little faster than most, and our girls really struggled to adjust,” said Valley coach Thadd Mellott, whose team shot 27 strokes better last week in winning the conference match.
“But, that being said, we did good enough to advance, so I’m over the moon ecstatic happy. And for a team of sophomores and a junior, I’ll take it.”
Cripe led Wawasee with her 89, and was almost joined individually by teammate Tate Cowan.
Cowan, Rochester’s Rochester’s Karah Lingenfelter and Plymouth’s Olivia Horvath all shot 98 and participated in a playoff to decide the final individual qualifier.
Cripe and Rochester siblings Kristianna (91) and Karah Lingenfelter garnered the individual qualifying spots.
Guinny Garr led Whitko with a 100.
